About this opportunity Align Technology, Inc. is seeking a Senior Materials Engineer to join our R&D Core Materials Engineering team. This role will be pivotal for planning and executing projects that focus on new product development, as well as improving Align's existing products, driving the company's sustainability initiatives, product packaging design and validation, support manufacturing, regulatory, quality, supply chain and other company efforts while maintaining the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate will have broad and in-depth knowledge of polymer materials and strong problem-solving skills. In this role, you will… Responsibilities: * Develop and guide new medical device product development from start to finish. * Lead and execute the design, development, and validation of innovative packaging solutions for medical devices. * Drive sustainability initiatives in plastic recycling process development, materials characterization, and applications to reduce environmental impact and create values. * Work cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Clinical Research, Marketing, Operations, Regulatory, and Legal teams towards the development of new products or the improvement of existing products or processes. * Work independently at the laboratory bench to develop and evaluate new products or to adapt and improve existing ones. * Select, design, and evaluate a variety of materials (e.g., thermoplastics, elastomers, composites, adhesives) to determine the best combination of materials for specific applications. * Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a team environment. * Interface with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and technical collaborators to deliver technical solutions. * Prioritize and meet deadlines while constructing project timetables. * Prepare written reports summarizing key findings. * Identify and implement effective courses of action. * Coach, motivate, and mentor junior engineers and lab technicians as needed. In this role, you'll need … Requirements: * MS, or Ph.D. degree or equivalent in Polymer Science or Materials Science or Chemical Engineering or related field. * 8+ years working experience in material research and development, depending on level of education. Skills: * Experience with physical-chemical processes and methods of materials characterization, with familiarity in polymer characterization methods (mechanical testing, thermal analysis, rheology, spectroscopy, and the underlying theory). * Strong problem-solving skills, utilizing First Principles Thinking to address complex problems. * Proven experience with CAD software and other packaging design tools. * Excellent attention to detail. * Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment. * Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and participate in cross-functional teams. * Capability to work on projects ranging from routine to highly complex. * Strong team player with the ability to interact tactfully with others. Applicants for positions with Align must be legally authorized to work in the country which they are applying for and verification of employment eligibility will be required as a condition of hire. #LI-TS3 Primary Location Base Salary Range: $168,100 to $191,200 USD Base salary ranges are a guideline used to determine appropriate pay. Placement depends on the individual skills and experience level of a candidate plus the total compensation and equity across team members. For other locations outside of the primary location, the base salary range will be adjusted geographically. For field Sales roles, the salary listed is the base pay only and does not include the applicable commission plan. A cost of living adjustment may be added to base pay for higher cost areas in the U.S. Our internship hourly rates are a standard pay determined based on the position and your location, year in school, degree, and experience.
