In this role, you will perform manual labor and operate equipment that helps maintain, repair and reconstruct our roadways, freeways, bridges and more! A day in the life: * Operate snowplows to remove snow and ice from roadways. * Apply sand, salt and chemical deicers to road surfaces. * Remove build up of sanding materials on roadways. * Install tire chains, sanders and snowplows on equipment as needed. * Patrol the road system to identify and correct adverse conditions for travelers. * Respond to accidents and other emergencies and set up traffic control. * Perform routine equipment maintenance. * Exposure to noise, extreme heights, adverse weather, heavy equipment, pesticides and hazardous waste materials is expected. * Must be able to move around rough terrain, on uneven slopes and may need to lift up to 60 pounds. * May need to be available after hours, on weekends and holidays for emergency, on call and weather related purposes. * To request a copy of the position description, which includes all duties and working conditions, please email ODOTRecruitment@odot.oregon.gov. Minimum qualifications: * One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work OR * Two years of general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience or training. Special qualifications: * 45 minute response time to the 90300 E Highway 26, Government Camp, OR 97028 for emergency call-outs. * Employee will be required to use a commercial motor vehicle to conduct business. You must possess a current, valid commercial driver's license A (CDL-A) with a tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions, no 5th wheel restrictions and no manual transmission restrictions, OR have the ability to acquire a class A commercial learner permit within 60 days of hire and a CDL-A with a tanker endorsement and restrictions removed within six months of hire (ODOT will cover training costs) to be considered eligible for this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse registration and full query check for our final candidate(s) and annual query for current employees. We may also use transferable skills, experience, education and alignment with ODOT values to help us decide who will move forward. * Preference for currently possessing a CDL-A, CDL-B, or CDL permit. * Experience plowing snow. * Experience operating dump trucks and other heavy equipment (front end loaders, skid steers, excavators, etc.). * Basic computer skills (examples: using email, completing electronic timesheets, calendar invites, etc.). * Experience working cohesively with other team members, the public and other agencies. * Experience driving in adverse weather and hazardous road conditions.
