Interim Director of Perioperative Services- MIssissippi

American Consultants is looking for an Interim Director of Perioperative Services at a facility in Mississippi. This leader must have experience with 20+ OR's to be considered.

Job Summary:

The Interim Director of Perioperative Services is responsible for the leadership and management of all surgical and procedural areas, including preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative services. This role ensures that high-quality patient care is delivered in compliance with organizational goals, regulatory standards, and best practices in perioperative services. The Director will provide strategic direction, foster a collaborative team environment, and ensure operational efficiency during the interim period. This is a temporary position focused on maintaining continuity of care and providing leadership during a transitional phase.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leadership Management:

• Oversee the daily operations of perioperative services, including operating rooms, pre-op, post-anesthesia care units (PACU), sterile processing, and anesthesia.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to clinical and administrative staff in perioperative services.
• Collaborate with surgical teams, anesthesiologists, nurses, and support staff to ensure safe, efficient, and effective patient care.
• Ensure that all operations adhere to hospital policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., The Joint Commission, CMS).

• Operational Efficiency:

• Monitor and improve perioperative processes, workflows, and resource utilization to optimize operational efficiency and patient throughput.
• Ensure that surgical schedules are managed effectively, and that patient flow from pre-op to post-op is seamless.
• Manage supply chain and inventory for surgical services to ensure availability and cost-effectiveness of supplies and equipment.

• Quality Patient Safety:

• Ensure compliance with safety protocols, infection control standards, and other quality improvement initiatives.
• Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to patient outcomes, staff performance, and operational metrics.
• Conduct root cause analyses on any adverse events or near misses and implement corrective actions as needed.

• Financial Budgetary Management:

• Collaborate with the finance team to develop and manage budgets for perioperative services.
• Monitor financial performance, ensuring cost-effectiveness and proper allocation of resources without compromising patient care.
• Participate in strategic planning and business development initiatives to enhance perioperative service lines.

• Staff Development:

• Lead efforts in the recruitment, training, and retention of qualified staff.
• Foster a positive work environment with an emphasis on teamwork, communication, and professional development.
• Ensure that staff members maintain necessary certifications and competencies required for their roles.

• Interim Transition Management:

• Serve as a bridge during the transition to a permanent Director of Perioperative Services.
• Support the onboarding process of the permanent director and assist in knowledge transfer to ensure a smooth handoff of responsibilities.
• Communicate effectively with hospital leadership to report progress, challenges, and achievements during the interim period.

Qualifications:

• Education:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Masters degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field strongly preferred.

• Licensure Certification:

• Active RN license required.
• CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) or related certification preferred.

• Experience:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in perioperative services management or leadership.
• Proven experience in managing complex surgical services, including multi-disciplinary teams.
• Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements and manage change.

• Skills Competencies:

• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities with clinical and administrative teams.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on operational efficiency and quality improvement.
• Ability to handle high-stress environments and make critical decisions under pressure.

This interim position is ideal for an experienced perioperative leader ready to step in during a critical time of transition, ensuring that high standards of care and operational excellence are maintained.
