Position Summary: The Laboratory Manager will optimize the daily operations of our well-equipped 4800 sq ft chemistry, protein sciences and biology research laboratory. This includes efficiently managing laboratory supplies procurement, assuring smooth and efficient equipment operations, overseeing preventative maintenance of lab equipment, participating in the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Committee, interfacing with building and related services, and responding effectively to critical or emergent situations. The ideal candidate is experienced in supporting a diverse and innovative scientific team dedicated to cutting-edge research. Key Responsibilities: Laboratory Operations Management: * Oversee the day-to-day operations of the biologics and chemistry laboratory to ensure a clean, organized, and safe working environment by applying and ensuring compliance with safety standards and protocols. * Manage laboratory inventory, including ordering supplies, reagents, and consumables, engaging with vendors for standing or bulk orders to identify cost savings while adhering to budget constraints. * Establish and manage preventative maintenance and service contracts to minimize downtime in coordination with the building facilities, as needed, to ensure all equipment is maintained, calibrated, and functioning correctly. * Stay current on technological advancements in lab techniques, recommending upgrades or new equipment when appropriate, and lead initiatives to adopt new tools or methodologies that enhance lab capabilities and productivity. Laboratory Safety: * Act as Lab Safety Officer, liaising with and actively participating in the EHS committee and facilities management in developing and implementing safety protocols and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and best lab practices, including conducting safety walkthroughs, EHS committee meetings, and managing lab waste management. * Train new and existing team members on standard lab practices, safety guidelines, and equipment usage. * Maintain SDS and chemical inventory records, conduct regular audits and inspections to identify areas for improvement, and ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards. * Conduct and document weekly supply and safety inspections to identify and address safety concerns, including laboratory gases and LN2 levels, monitoring cold storage and incubators. Replace supply tanks as appropriate to ensure constant and consistent supply. The position will include occasional off-hours response to laboratory emergencies. Compound Management: * Establish and maintain systems to ensure the accurate tracking of compound and biologics inventories, barcoding, and labeling to ensure the tractability of materials from receipt to use. * Implement procedures to ensure proper compound handling and safety in compliance with EHS regulations. Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in a scientific field such as analytical chemistry, molecular biology or cell biology. * 5+ years of experience in laboratory management, including supplies and equipment management. * Strong knowledge of laboratory equipment and preventative maintenance practices. * Strong knowledge of EH&S regulations and experience in participating in safety committees. * Exceptional communication and organizational skills and attention to detail while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of working collaboratively with diverse teams.
