Description The mission of the Boulder County District Attorney's Office is tomaintain public safety while seeking justice in every case, and to enhance the legacy of the Boulder District Attorney's Office as a leader in public safety, progressive prosecution, and criminal justice reform. The DA Computer Forensic Investigator supports the mission of the Boulder County Digital Forensics Lab (BCDFL) by providing forensic analysis of computer systems, cellular phones, video evidence and other electronic devices. They primarily provide digital forensics services for the Boulder District Attorney's Office, the Erie Police Department, the Lafayette Police Department, the Louisville Police Department, and the University of Colorado at Boulder Police Department. The investigator assists in and conducts investigation of computer-related crimes and criminal activity, preserves evidence, prepares reports documenting their forensic analysis, testifies in court, and assists other law enforcement/public safety agencies as directed. The position requires the applicant to have and maintain Colorado POST peace officer certification. This position will work at the Boulder County Sheriff's Office,located at 5600 Flatiron Parkway,Boulder, CO 80301.Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt. Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work. Hiring Salary Range:$89,772- $116,000 Annually Classification Salary Range:$89,772-$129,264.00 Annually Examples of Duties Examples of Duties * Conducts the forensic analysis of computer systems and other forms of digital evidence, with the goal of preserving, identifying, extracting, interpreting, and documenting the evidence found. * Analyzes and preserves video forensic evidence with the goal of preserving, identifying, extracting, interpreting, and documenting the evidence found. * Uses experience and knowledge of a wide variety of advanced computer technologies and theories to conduct analysis of submitted evidence. * Receives, inventories, and signs for physical evidence submitted for examination. * Reviews laboratory requests and determines the type of examination needed. * In data recovery cases, determines the most appropriate method of protecting original evidence and recovering deleted, erased, hidden and encrypted data. * Authors affidavits and serves search warrants. * Prepares cases and testifies in court. * Conducts proactive online investigations involving sexual predators, computer fraud, and identity theft. * Works closely with other employees, law enforcement agencies, social workers, lawyers, volunteers, and other members of governmental agencies. * Required to complete detailed computer offense and incident reports. * Participates on the Colorado ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) Task Force. Makes entries and queries via the use of an on-line computer system. * Makes public presentations regarding Internet safety. * Serves in an on-call status on a rotating basis with other members of the BCDFL. * Responds as required and when reasonably available for full-team response to major incidents, potentially outside of normal business hours. * Performs other work as required. * May be reassigned in emergency situations.
