Job Description: Position: Graphic Design Intern Reports to: Creative Director Department: Communications and Marketing Revision Dates: 8/16/2024 Salary Grade: $15/hour Academic Credit: The internship can be structured with or without academic credit. Students wishing to receive academic credit for their internship are responsible for identifying a faculty advisor and submitting their request to the Registrar's Office for approval. Classification: Intern Location of Position: McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, MD 21157 Duration of Appointment: This position lasts one semester with potential for an extension. Evalution Procedures: Interns are evaluated on a continuing basis Scope: Working with the Office of Communications and Marketing, the Graphic Design Intern will conceptualize anddesign for McDaniel audiences and support the College's goals. Because of the beauty of campus, the philosophy of the college, and the division's willingness to consider fresh ideas, the position will provide an outstanding platform for an innovative, exciting, creative perspective, and the opportunity to make truly excellent work. The work of the Graphic Design Intern will involve creating visual communications for print and digital. This process will include layout, typesetting, photo editing, photo retouching and enhancement, and preparation for transfer to offset press production by providing print-ready files. This internship will also provide opportunities to showcase originaldesigns through digital signage across campus. The Graphic Design Intern will conceptualize and design branded postcard templates in the Marq templating platform for Admissions events. Learning Outcomes: This internship will assist students in developing skills in graphic design, communications, and marketing. By the end of the internship, students will have several new examples of relevant work to add to their portfolios. They will also gain valuable professional experience in a real- world creative environment. Additional Benefits: * 1 year student membership to the American Marketing Association (AMA), with access to a large library of resources * 1 Free Training Course with the AMA Responsibilities: * Create visual communications for print and digital. This will include designing marketing/communicationtemplates, digital signs, web and social media graphics, direct mail pieces, posters, flyers, and other marketing materials as needed. * Ensure marketing materials visually communicate McDaniel's mission and brand standards. * Collaborate with team members/departments to produce high-quality final products. * Produce proofs for review and make revisions based on the feedback received. * Manage deadlines and complete assigned projects. * Supply print specs for vendors on assigned print projects. * Work with print vendors to ensure quality control and print accuracy of each job. Miscellaneous Duties: * Stay current on the latest design trends. * Be a collaborative and contributing member of the team. * Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements: Qualifications: * Currently a junior or senior in pursuit of associate's, bachelor's, or graduate degree at McDaniel College. * Preferred degree of study in communications, marketing, graphic design, or closely related field. * Must include portfolio samples. * Individual should be able to craft and execute a vision with creativity and style. * Creative self-starter who is comfortable with both taking initiative and working in collaboration. * Must be proficient in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, & Photoshop and/or other common design applications. * Knowledge of the Mac OS, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint software * Ideal candidate will be energetic, task-oriented, and creative with strong work ethic and positive attitude. * Ability to communicate well with others and maintain a professional demeanor. Time Requirements: This position will be approximately 8-10 hours/week. Work hours will be structured around school schedules and relateddeadlines. Most work is performed during standard business hours. This position lasts one semester with potential for an extension. The internship can be structured with or without academic credit. Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely working in a normal office environment withminimal exposure to adverse conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal. Physical Abilities: The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this internship: * Sitting for long periods of time. * Viewing a computer screen for long periods of times. * Limited lifting involved but not more than 10 pounds at a time.
