Introduction \n GRADE ASTD10\n LOCATION OF POSITION MDH - Claims Processing Unit\n201 W. Preston Street\nBaltimore, MD 21201\n Main Purpose of Job The main purpose of this full time contractual position is to process and data entry for medical claims in the\nClaims Processing Unit in the Office of Systems, Operations and Pharmacy in Medical\nCare Programs at the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. This Claims\nSpecialist/Processor is responsible for the accurate and timely front-end adjudication of\nmedical claims for fee for service inpatient, outpatient facility and professional services.\nNormal processing includes data entry of the claim, the review and interpretation benefits\nand edit/audit resolution, claim payment and routing claims for review to OHS for\nresolution. This position will follow all state & federal regulations when determining the\nresponsible payer, coding of the claims and ensuring that clean claims are filed to each\npayer. This position must have good interpersonal skills, the ability to complete\ncorrespondence and applicable forms to obtain information necessary for claim\nadjudication. Processing of some claims may require reviewing letters from physicians to\ndetermine payable procedures and or recipient/provider eligibility. This position has\nmany changing processing procedures, provider/recipient eligibility determination and\nsystem modifications. This position must process and or complete 3%\naudits/quality control reviews with claims in an accurate and timely manner in order to\nmeet state and federal requirements while maintaining acceptable performance levels\nbased upon standards for production and quality. This position may assist with MCO\ncapitation processes. Other duties, responsibilities, and qualifications may be required\nand/or assigned as necessary.\n MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education:�� Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. \nExperience: One year of clerical experience applying policies in a medical care, health insurance or federal or State entitlement program. \nNotes:\n1. Candidates may substitute additional general clerical experience�on a year-for-year basis for the required education. \n2. Candidates may substitute thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university�for the required experience. \n SELECTION PROCESS Applicants who meet the minimum (and selective) qualifications will be included in further evaluation. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.\n BENEFITS \n\nContractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\nLeave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\n\n\n FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS Online applications are highly recommended.
