NURSING SUMMARY/ PURPOSE OF POSITION The Aultman Education Coordinator (RN) is a professional nurse whose primary responsibility is to provide clinical leadership, support direct patient care, supervise staff, and assist the Clinical Unit Director address more complex questions or scenarios in relation to day-to-day operations. Aultman Education Coordinator provides input into the daily operations and implements operational decisions made by the Clinical Unit Director. The Coordinator, in collaboration with the Director, is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the education needs and facilitating training opportunities for skill development of the surgical team. This position reports to the Clinical Unit Director. QUALIFICATIONS * Graduate of accredited School of Nursing with BSN required. * Current, valid unencumbered OBN or multistate license to practice registered nursing pursuant to Section 4723.11 of Ohio Revised Code; * Advanced educational and experiential qualifications with consideration of the following: * Minimum of 1-3 years clinical experience; * Understanding of the organization's scope and complexity and the position's responsibility; * Knowledge of the scope and complexity of the nursing care needs of the major populations served, as well as the culturally diverse and special needs of the population; * Certification - required for those meeting certifying agency eligibility requirements. Evaluates progression of new hire orientation. Works with orientee and/or preceptor to meet education and training needs during orientation period. Assumes role of preceptor periodically during orientation period to evaluate needs and skill level. Assures competency evaluation completed prior to release from orientation. * Ability to complete tasks independently with minimal or intermittent direction. SKILLS * Demonstrates effective communication and interacts appropriately and professionally with patients, visitors, colleagues, physicians, students, and all others. * Ability and willingness to resolve and mediate conflicts. * Must be organized, able to effectively prioritize tasks and resources while exhibiting appropriate time management skills. * Must be detail oriented while focusing on safe practices and quality care. * Demonstrates effective leadership and coaching of colleagues to positively effect patient outcomes. * Adaptability to changing work environments or needs. * Proficient computer skills to complete tasks as required. WORKING CONDITIONS: * Assists Unit Director in the 24/7 responsibility for unit/department(s). * On call rotation required. * Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day. DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Surgical Services Department provides care to adult and pediatric surgical and procedural patients seeking intervention to maintain or restore an optimum level of wellness. The department is located at the north end of the hospital, on the first floor. There are two operating suites. The Endoscopy Department is located on the second floor and has one procedure room. The cesarean section operating room is located in the Obstetrics Department, located on the second floor. The Prep and Pack (P&P) area is located within the Surgical Services Department. P&P provides central sterilization and processing for surgery and other clinical and office areas. Pre-Admission Testing, also located within the Surgical Services Department, works with anesthesia to screen patients scheduled for surgery. The Surgical Services Department is staffed for elective surgeries and procedures Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. An on-call surgical team is available for non-elective surgeries and procedures after regular hours, weekends, and holidays. The types of services provided include, but are not limited to: * GI endoscopy: colonoscopy, esophagogastroduodenoscopy, and sigmoidoscopy * General surgery * Urology * Gynecology * Obstetrical/Cesarean Sections * Laparoscopic * ENT * Pain management * Laser * Orthopedic * Podiatry * Anesthesia * Robotic PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS PURPOSE: To identify specific functions job requirements and work environment factors that could affect job performance.
