Job Description and Duties The Senior Environmental Branch Chief will be a key member of the Division of Environmental Planning and Engineering at Caltrans District 4 (Bay Area) in Oakland, CA. The incumbent will be a critical member of Project Development Teams for the delivery of transportation projects throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. The Branch Chief will be critical in identifying and furthering ways to avoid and minimize environmental impacts and contribute to enhancements within the State Highway System. Under the general direction of an Environmental Program Manager (I), the Branch Chief will supervise a group of 5 to 7 rank-and-file Environmental Scientists and ensure the timely completion of Environmental Documents and work products to support overall Project Delivery in the District. The Branch Chief manages the most difficult and complex environmental studies in their Branch. The incumbent will ensure Caltrans projects comply with myriad environmental federal and state laws, regulations, and policies. PARF# 04-5-0455 / JC-453258 This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
