* Job Type: Officer of Administration * Bargaining Unit: * Regular/Temporary: Regular * End Date if Temporary: * Hours Per Week: 35 * Standard Work Schedule: * Building: * Salary Range: $175,000-$200,000 The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary The Deputy Chief Operating Officer (Deputy COO) will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Center on Global Energy Policy (CGEP). The Deputy COO will be primarily responsible for enhancing operational effectiveness across the organization and will work closely with the COO to design, implement, and oversee a fiscally sustainable strategy for the organization's future. Additionally, the Deputy COO will collaborate with the COO to create an environment that attracts, retains, and rewards high-caliber talent while maintaining prudent budgetary controls. Responsibilities * Design and implement an operating model that aligns organizational strategy with day-to-day operations, focusing on Finance and Human Resources, and emphasizing process efficiency and internal customer service. * Take a leading role in operationalizing and communicating strategy across the organization in close partnership with the COO and the Founding Director's Office. * Collaborate with the COO to ensure that annual budgeting and forecasting align with the organization's strategic goals, with particular attention to headcount costs and funding sources. * Serve as a key advisor to the COO on adopting a "people first" approach to human resources management, including overseeing talent acquisition, talent management, performance metrics, training, compensation best practices, and organizational culture. * Develop performance indicators for the organization's strategic plan to establish benchmarked metrics, ensuring consistent progress reporting to the leadership team. * Work proactively across all teams and support the leadership team to ensure that individual initiatives align with the broader strategic plan, identifying gaps in alignment and opportunities for improvement. * Provide concrete recommendations to the COO on the development and revision of internal policies and procedures, ensuring they are suitable for the organization and aligned with University policies and procedures. * Support the organization's change management process by evaluating the impact of changes on the current structure, liaising with key stakeholders to gather input, and providing feedback on communications, documents, and strategy. * Develop a strong consultative partnership with leaders across the organization and University, clearly communicating the center's goals and objectives. * Manage other ad hoc strategic projects as directed by the COO. Minimum Qualifications * A bachelor's degree is required; a master's degree is preferred. * Academic training in non-profit management, finance, human resources, or a related field is desirable. * Seven to nine years of experience in operational leadership roles, preferably in a non-profit or think tank setting. Direct experience managing Finance and/or Human Resources functions is preferred. * Demonstrated experience in strategic project management and leading organizational change. * Strong organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation. * Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills are required.
