POSITION SUMMARY: The Adult Education Instructor, under the direction of the Education Director, provides individual and small-group instruction to eligible participants seeking to complete a General Educational Development (GED) certificate. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Provides direct services, provide individual and small-group instruction to eligible participants in a classroom setting, evaluate student progress, provide educational counseling to assist and encourage students. * Maintains student records including pre- and post-test scores and weekly attendance sheets. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: * Maintains confidentiality of student information with tribal and federal laws, regulations, policies, and practices. * All other job-related duties as assigned. CONTACTS: Immediate peers, immediate supervisor/manager, customers and authorized individuals under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position light with lifting of 20 pounds and frequent carrying/lifting up to 10 pounds. Physical factors include constant use of hearing, near vision, typing; frequent sitting; occasional standing and walking. Working conditions include occasional exposure to weather. Potential hazards include constant computer use, occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, electric shock, infectious exposure, client contact and equipment. REQUIREMENTS: Education: Bachelor's Degree in Math, Science, English, or History preferred. Will accept related field that supports ability to teach general education classes. Minimum requirement: 60 semester credit hours from an accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Experience: Experience working with adult learners preferred. Certification/License: Valid State of Michigan Teaching Certificate for grades 9 to 12 preferred. Minimum requirement: ability to be approved for a substitute teaching permit based on listed education requirements. Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check. Must maintain a good moral character standing. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have working knowledge of Math, Science, Reading, Writing, and Social Studies. Must be able to communicate effectively with adult learners. Must be able to maintain and generate accurate and complete records and reports. Must be able to teach adult learners with differing abilities. Must be able to work with minimal to no supervision.
