Job Description Summary Responsible for conducting quality analysis of bulk, in-process and finished goods under supervision and according to standard operating procedures. The QC Biochemist I should demonstrate proficiency in all applicable QC techniques, operation of relevant equipment and software packages associated with testing, data analysis, interpretation and reporting. May perform troubleshooting and follow corrective/preventive actions for failure and non-conformances. The QC Biochemist I should execute testing protocols and data reports, calibration of equipment, report potential problems, and bring them to the attention of supervisor. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Performs bulk in-process or finished goods, QC testing following analytical methods and procedures (such as Flow Cytometry, HPLC, ELISA, Spectrophotometry, etc.) for products. * Record and analyze data on all QC testing as assigned. Reports atypical results and makes recommendations as appropriate. Writes out of Specification (OOS) and Quality Notification Reports (QN's) as appropriate. * May perform environmental monitoring (air viable/non-viable and surface sampling) in manufacturing areas and RODI water system testing (microbial, LAL, USP testing). * Assures bulk or finished products conform to established specifications. * Assures calibration, maintenance and cleaning of equipment and instrumentation. Maintains related logs and records. * Actively participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for continuous improvement. * Completes assigned tasks or projects and communicates project status. * Perform material transactions on SAP system. * Advises direct supervisor of conditions that may affect operations or contribute to personnel issues, incidents or accidents. * Keeps abreast of the basic requirements for regulatory compliance in own area of work and aligns with those requirements. * Promotes a safe work environment. Should provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. Participates in Environment Health and Safety programs. Addresses corrective/preventive actions whenever a hazard is identified. Communicates to supervisor all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices. * Actively participate in the Daily Management System by attending, leading shift start up meetings and providing appropriate status follow-up. * Provide recommendations to continuously improve product/process quality and enhance efficiency. * Performs other related duties and assignments as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: * Requires a Bachelor Degree in a related scientific field (such as Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology or Medical Technology) * Minimum of 6 months relevant experience in a laboratory or pharmaceutical/medical device/ biotechnology environment. Knowledge and Skills: * Fully Bilingual in English and Spanish. * Knowledge in the operation of related instrumentation such as Centrifuges, Biohoods, Spectrophotometers, Flow Cytometers and HPLC. * Proficiency in all applicable QC techniques and software packages associated with testing, data analysis, interpretation and reporting. * Knowledge of immuno-assays related to cell biology applications: Cells immunophenotyping, ELISA and Western Blots. * Use of MS Windows and MS Office, database and information management systems. * Knowledge of GMP, FDA, ISO and OSHA requirements highly desirable. Proven troubleshooting skills for equipment assigned. * Effective skills on analytical thinking, problem solving, interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication, planning/organization, and meeting's development and participation. * Demonstrated ability to follow established policies and procedures. * Willing to travel to US mainland and offshore. MENTAL DEMAND Apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form. Manage stressful situations. PHYSICAL DEMAND Occasionally, the work requires carrying and lifting medium weight level objects. In addition, occasionally requires pushing and pulling lightweight level objects; as well as climbing, balancing, stooping and seeing (far vision). Constantly, the job requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching, handling, fingering, talking and hearing. Frequently, the job requires seeing (near vision and depth perception). WORKING ENVIRONMENT The work is performed constantly inside the building. The work environment has hazards exposures (electrical and biomedical) and atmospheric conditions (fumes and gases).
