Description Are you passionate about an opportunity to protect people and their environment? Do you like evaluating fire engineering mitigation controls to ensure protection of buildings and their occupants? Do you love helping others during emergency situations? Do you want to ensure that hazardous chemicals and materials are handled safely? If so, we are looking for someone like you to enhance our environmental health and safety team at APL as an early career technician in life safety/property protection/emergency services. As the Firefighter & Hazardous Waste Technician at APL, you will... Inspect building-wide fire systems across the APL campus as your primary responsibility. Respond to emergency alarms or calls including fires, chemical spills, or medical emergencies. Assist with collection, transport, segregation, and preparation of EPA regulated waste materials for transfer to a disposal handling company. Assess and provide Hot Work and Confined Space permits. Assist construction activities with operational fire suppression and alarm system requirements. Conduct other environmental safety and health activities, as needed. Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications if you... Have a High School Diploma or equivalent Completed Firefighter II training (or more) Completed Maryland Emergency Medical Technician B training Can acquire a Class B CDL within one year of hire; must possess valid driver 's license at time of hire Can complete Hazardous Material Technician certification and Pump Operator certification within one year of hire Know about hazardous materials/hazardous wastes Are able to lift 50 lbs move heavy materials such as 55 gallon drums and use hand tools, power tools, and a pallet jack. Have excellent interpersonal communication skills Are energized by working within a positive, collaborative team environment To access APL's facilities and networks, US Citizenship or permanent resident status is required, subject to applicable laws. The shift work for our Fire Fighter and Hazardous Waste Technicians includes 48 hours on site followed by 96 hours off. Why work at APL?
