Job Description The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences' Web Manager is responsible for analyzing and overseeing the creation and maintenance of web communications in the college, which includes Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) and the Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station (VAES). Working collaboratively as part of a team, the Web Manager will be a key player in executing a digital-first strategy and is expected to independently research, propose, and implement the newest best practices and standards to ensure the college, VCE, and VAES lead the charge in web and digital communications. This position is expected to analyze web metrics from a user experience perspective, develop a search engine optimization (SEO) strategy, implement an information architecture, and utilize the university-maintained content management system to develop visually compelling web pages with a strategic mindset. All designs should stimulate engagement with stakeholders and encourage a culture of philanthropy by using a cohesive visual identity adhering to the college's brand, all while furthering the strategic goals of CALS Advancement. Occasional use of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript may be needed. The Web Manager will supervise the College's Web Specialist and work with a variety of clients across the university to update and maintain unit websites, as well as train colleagues on how to maintain and update sites themselves. This position reports to the Director of Communications and Marketing and is part of the college's Advancement team. Required Qualifications * Demonstrated proficiency in web design and page creation within a content management system. * Demonstrated proficiency in understanding of analytics, metrics, and search engine optimization (SEO). * Experience developing web information, architecture, and hierarchy. * Maintenance knowledge of HTML and CSS. * Interest and ability to independently learn additional web development languages/technologies. * Knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in user experience (UX) design. * History of working collaboratively with a creative team. * Strong communications skills (visual design and writing). * Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently, and problem-solve. * Master's degree in digital media, communications or business information technology or related field or a bachelor's degree in the previously listed disciplines and significant professional experience. Preferred Qualifications * Experience with Virginia Tech Ensemble or Adobe Experience Manager. * Advanced knowledge of HTML and CSS. * Experience with JavaScript. * Supervisory skills. * Knowledge of Virginia Tech brand standards. * Knowledge of WCAG and/or Section 508 web accessibility standards. Appointment Type Regular Salary Information $66,000 - $75,000; commensurate with experience.
