Closing Date: November 1, 2024, or sooner upon receipt of the first 50 application submission Deputy Sheriff Lieutenant Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office Full-time Pay Range: $43.66 - $51.67 Job Summary: The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications from professional, responsible, motivated, and qualified leaders for the position of Deputy Sheriff Lieutenant. The agency is a highly professional organization committed to serving and protecting everyone within Milwaukee County with fairness, integrity and respect. Lieutenants serve as the second in command of an assigned division within the MCSO. These divisions include but are not limited to the Airport, Patrol, Courts, Criminal Investigations, and Professional Standards. Lieutenants act as a primary or secondary field commander during special events or critical incidents, act as the Division Commander (Captain) in his/her absence, and are responsible for all aspects of their assigned division. Lieutenants directly supervise sergeants, deputy sheriffs and support staff within their assigned division, on all three shifts, and throughout the agency (situation-specific). Lieutenants assist the division commanders in running the day-to-day operations of a division. Job Responsibilities * Effectively lead and supervise Deputy Sheriff's, Deputy Sheriff Sergeants and support staff on all three shifts. Conduct investigations involving complaints by citizens. Conduct professional Standards Division investigations. Create scheduling for special events and create and supervise the implementation of special operational plans. * As collateral duty, Lieutenants are assigned additional duties covering as the Shift Commander after normal business hours, weekends, and holidays. This is an agency command assignment with responsibility as the Incident Commander, etc.. * In addition to assisting with the day-to-day operations of the division assigned, the Deputy Sheriff Lieutenant serves as the Division Commander in the absence of the Division Commander (D/S Captain) and is responsible for all aspects of the Division. The D/S Lieutenants are responsible for assisting with the preparation of the division budget as well as assisting with working within the adopted budget throughout the year. * This position is responsible for overseeing divisional training of all staff to include documentation of all training. This position is also responsible for assisting the Division Commander (D/S Captain) in identifying training deficiencies and addressing them. * Ensure that documentation is initiated and completed in an effective and efficient manner. Maintain appropriate documentation regarding scheduling, field training, workers compensation, overtime, etc. Also scheduling of mandatory overtime so that DSA contract is followed. * Coordinate the scheduling of in-service training for all staff. * Coordinate, plan, and manage special events. * Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: * Current resident of the State of Wisconsin. * Valid Wisconsin driver's license is required at time of application and throughout incumbency. * High School diploma or GED and completed at least 60 college credits at an accredited college or university. * Five (5) years of experience in a law enforcement certified position is required. * One (1) year of supervisory experience in the rank of Sergeant or equivalent with a law enforcement agency is required. * Possession of a current Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) certification through the State of Wisconsin is required at the time of application and must be maintained throughout incumbency is required. * Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
