NGRREC seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate-Wildlife Ecology to join their team of scientists, educators and managers. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Terrestrial Wildlife Ecologist at NGRREC and conduct focused research on some aspect(s) of basic and applied ecology, conservation and/or natural resource management. Preference will be given to candidates whose research aligns with NGRREC's mission, and compliments those of existing NGRREC scientists and their research programs. We are interested in candidates who explore ecological questions by developing and applying cutting-edge statistics or metrics, writing statistical software, applying analytical or simulation approaches, and/or addressing the ecoinformatic challenges of working with large datasets. We are particularly interested in researchers who address questions that operate across spatial and/or temporal scales and who apply both mechanistic and statistical approaches to their research program. This region is of significant interest for watershed health reasons and has a large number of non-game wildlife research needs on federal, state, and NGO lands. In addition to collaboration with NGRREC principal scientists, collaboration, and coordination with individuals at federal, state, and NGO organizations will be critical to develop and implement wildlife ecology research in the region. The Postdoctoral Research Associate-Wildlife Ecology will have knowledge of all NGRREC Research programs and work closely with the NGRREC Terrestrial Wildlife Ecologist to supervise technicians. Because of the close working relationship with NGRREC principal scientists, the Postdoctoral Research Associate-Wildlife Ecology will have the opportunity to apply knowledge of natural resources and biological systems to develop collaborative and independent research projects occurring at the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center (NGRREC). Key Measurable Expectations * Oversee certain aspects of wildlife ecology research support for the Terrestrial Wildlife Ecologist. * Supervise, train, and coordinate schedules of technical staff and research associates in wildlife ecology research in both the field and laboratory. * Oversee animal collection and identification in wildlife ecology research projects, as well as maintain updated IACUC training certifications. * Oversee collection and analysis of vegetation data associated with wildlife ecology research projects. * Manage laboratory operations by ensuring functionality of instruments, processing and analyses of biological samples, developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for future research projects, and instructing technical staff in SOPs. * Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with outside organizations to advance research initiatives related to NGRREC's mission. * Conduct statistical analyses and prepare manuscripts for publication in scientific journals. * Help develop novel grant proposals for submission to various agencies. Minimum Qualifications: * Ph.D. degree in ecology, biology, natural resources, or related discipline is required. * Research experience that includes conducting field and/or laboratory experiments (and associated statistical analyses). * Proficiency in the use of software tools including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office package, R, and ArcGIS, as well as a willingness to learn new computer applications. * Evidence of scientific productivity (e.g., publications, presentations, reports, etc.). * Ability to effectively work individually and in a team setting. * Availability for early/late hours, weekend work, and overnight travel. * Valid Driver's license required. Preferred Qualifications * Record of peer-reviewed publications. * Experience mentoring undergraduate research interns and technical staff. * Familiarity and experience in wildlife ecology research. * Familiarity with species distribution modeling of for amphibians and reptiles.
