DIVISION: Facilities/Building Services REPORTS TO: Assistant Director Position Overview: Grounds Crew Manager/Head Groundskeeper resides in the Office of Facilities Management within the Building Services division of the Boston Public Schools, reporting to the Senior Manager Buildings and Grounds. Grounds Crew Manager/Head Groundskeeper is responsible for supervising the maintenance and repair of schoolyards, school playgrounds, outdoor classrooms and White Stadium In order to contribute to a clean and healthy school environment in order to advance the mission of the Boston Public Schools. The position will have a particular emphasis on maintaining the increased use and demand of outdoor classroom educational space in the district. This position is intended to lead a team on multiple fronts, maintaining workload flexibility dependent on changing conditions. The Grounds Crew Manager/Head Groundskeeper will serve in a Plant Administrators union management position role within the OFM. The Grounds Crew Manager/Head Groundskeeper will also be responsible for having a particular LEVEL OF EXPERTISE/ADAPTABILITY with regard to Grass cutting, hedge and weed trimming, and general cleanup of schools and schoolyards as needed, this will include maintenance and repair of school playgrounds as needed, including outdoor gyms. Must be willing to become educated on more specialized landscaping requirements as our outdoor classrooms and learning environments continue to expand. Responsibilities: General knowledge of school grounds. Ability to lead and supervise a team of union employees Ability to lead the overall direction, supervision, and coordination of work from verbal or written requests, emergency requests, and complaints. ] Grass cutting, hedge and weed trimming, and general cleanup of schools and schoolyards as needed. Ability and willingness to learn advanced landscaping techniques work with the Training Area Manager and the Maintenance shop within the OFM to ensure proper training, use of and care for the equipment assigned to each school] Be Available for any Training and Special Projects within the OFM as directed by the Asst Director and Senior Buildings and Grounds Manager Qualifications - Required: Familiarity with Boston and Boston Public Schools Current authorization to work in the United States An understanding of and commitment to gain greater understanding of what is necessary for an urban school system to enjoy continuous improvement in an increasingly complex and competitive environment. A deeply held and unyielding belief in the overarching mission of public education. Qualifications - Preferred: Preferred Five + years as a Senior custodian Preferred Three + years supervision or running custodial work crews or relevant experience Terms: School Plant Administrators Union (SPA) Grade 2, Step TBD, City of Boston Residency is Required.
