The City of Wasilla Library is looking for applicants to fill two open positions of a part-time Library Aide II. One position will have a schedule of Wed to Fri 9:15am-2:15pm and Saturday 12:15pm - 5:15pm. The second position will have a schedule of Mon, Wed, Thurs. 1:15pm to 6:15pm and Tuesday 2:15pm to 7:15pm.  The Library Aide II position performs basic circulation operations including the following: * Has knowledge of and ability to answer questions regarding circulation, fines and billing, public computing, printing, and copying.   * Able to perform standard circulation functions on library materials, such as check-in, check-out, renew, place holds, complete financial transactions, etc. * Ability to search for patrons in Library Automation system and register patrons for Library cards in accordance with established policies and procedures.  * Ability to search for items in Library Automation system as well as the Online Public Access Catalog and assist patrons with locating items. Knowledge of the stack layout and able to organize, shift and shelve materials. * Basic knowledge of Interlibrary Loan (ILL) policies and procedures and ability to assist patrons in filling out an ILL request form. * Ability to present information to small groups in informal settings such as departmental meetings. Knows where to find information on library events and programs and directs patrons to information. * Refers questions to the appropriate person as necessary. * Excellent Customer Service: applies customer service skills to enhance the level of user satisfaction; manages the library environment to enhance the user experience; applies effective techniques to address difficult situations with users; applies standards and practices for the delivery of quality customer service. * Effective Communication: communicates effectively using a variety of methods; with a variety of audiences and individuals from diverse backgrounds; selects and applies the most appropriate and effective communication means to meet situational needs. * Collaboration: develops and maintains effective relationships with others to achieve common goals; works effectively in a team with strong team-building skills and attitudes; applies effective strategies to manage organizational politics, conflict and difficult coworker behaviors. * Ethics & Values understands and acts in accordance with the basic values and ethics of library service. * Public Services - Circulation: The Library Aide II has knowledge of standard reports the library runs regularly, the ability to view and print those reports from the library automation system; able to search for long overdue items and send notices to customers on a regular basis; able to answer most reference questions and refer unanswered questions to the appropriate person as necessary. * Public Services - Interlibrary Loan: like the Library Aide I, the Library Aide II has basic knowledge of Inter-Library Loan policies and procedures and the ability to assist patrons in filling out an Inter-Library Loan request form. * Presentations, Events and Instruction; the Library Aide II is able to assist with setup of library programming, events and displays as well as write effective reports, memos, letters and emails. * Acquisitions, Cataloging and Processing: the Library Aide II is able to do basic copy cataloging as well as basic editing of the bibliographic and holdings records with close supervision; able to make basic changes to serial holdings and to add item records to existing serial records; is able to make basic modifications to item records; and able to receive, process, and/or redirect purchased materials as appropriate. * Technology: the Library Aide II has a basic understanding of the functions of common computer components and peripherals, can assist patrons with basic troubleshooting, including, but not limited to checking power connections and plugs; cancelling a print job; searching for text in a web page; downloading and saving files from the Internet. Additionally, the Library Aide II is able to perform intermediate tasks in Outlook, such as create and share calendar(s) with others; plan and schedule meetings and invite attendees; set reminders for calendar items. The Library Aide II is also able to perform intermediate tasks in Microsoft Word and Excel, such as creating and editing tables; using help features to locate instructions on how to perform an unfamiliar task; print/convert to PDF. * Management: The Library Aide II assists in training and monitoring new employees and volunteers by teaching basic skills in a simple and systematic way and evaluating trainees for comprehension. The Library Aide II also has the ability to direct questions regarding performance and/or training requests to his/her supervisor; exercises some discretion in selecting alternative work methods or in rendering independent judgment when given an unusual situation or problem; and analyzes information and tasks to be completed with limited supervision.  * Project Management: The Library Aide II is able to lead a project team and assume responsibility for project completion; is able to assign roles to individuals involved with the project; and is able to monitor and evaluate the project and use the results for project improvement. * Facility: The Library Aide II is able to implement emergency procedures and knowledge of emergency/maintenance contacts; is able to direct other staff members as to appropriate action in the case of an emergency. * High school diploma GED or equivalent  * Minimum two years customer service experience. * Previous library experience preferred. * Experience working with an automated library system desirable.
