Old Rochester Regional School District and the Massachusetts School Superintendency Union #55 serves students and families in the towns of Marion, Mattapoisett, and Rochester (commonly referred to as the Tri-Town). Our school system consists of one senior high school, one junior high school, and four elementary schools with a total enrollment of approximately 2,600 students. The mission of our school system and educational community is to inspire all students to think, to learn, and to care. We are seeking an Interim Director of Academic Counseling and Assessment to join our school system to serve our students, families, staff members, and stakeholders for the 2024-2025 school year. SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the High School & Junior High School Principals, the Interim Director of Academic Counseling and Assessment leads, directs and coordinates all phases of a comprehensive 21st century guidance and counseling program for grades 7-12 that include models advocated by ASCA and MASCA structure that delivers a counseling program across four component areas: individual planning, responsive services, guidance curriculum, and system support. This is a school year position plus additional days. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * Proven ability to build and work successfully in team settings. * Ability to provide leadership that reflects multiple perspectives and culturally responsive learning. * Ability to work effectively with colleagues, staff members, parents/guardians, students, and stakeholders. * Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Plans and implements guidance-related programs for students and parents (i.e. high school planning, college planning, financial aid, college fairs, career workshops, orientation programs.) * Consults and collaborates with teachers, parents, and staff to increase student achievement, behavior, motivation, and academic learning. * Collaborates with the Principals and Assistant Principals to ensure that effective strategies for improving instruction and student outcomes are implemented. * Organizes and supervises programs related to the college search process and admission, as well as other post-graduate opportunities. * Oversees an Advisory Council composed of members representing various perspectives of the guidance department, including teachers, administrators, community members, parents/caregivers and students to review and make recommendations about guidance program activities and results. * Plans and facilitates structured lessons to deliver the guidance curriculum effectively and in accordance with students' developmental needs. * Coordinates with school personnel in planning co-curricular and service activities that support the guidance program. * Oversees the Junior High School and the High School Program of Studies, including presentation and communication to students and families. * Supervises the transition of students from grades 6-7, 8-9 and post high school. * Supervises and evaluates the following staff members: guidance counselors, social workers, registrar, psychologist and guidance department secretaries. * Supervises programs of student counseling which includes personal and psychological counseling as well as college and career c counseling. * Develops and communicates with all stakeholders a course selection and placement process for students in grades 7-12. * Submits periodical reports on guidance activities and programs to appropriate administration and/or school committees. * Keeps parents, community members, and community organizations informed of guidance related programs and activities on a regular basis with newsletter articles, calls home, daily announcements, mailings home, information on * Naviance, Powerschool, and the District's website. * Plans and organizes transition activities such as 6th Grade Parent Information Night, 7th Grade Orientation, 8th Grade Parent Information Night; Advanced Placement Information Night; Freshman Orientation, etc.. * Oversees, in consultation with building administration, student testing including but not limited to SAT, ACT, PSAT, AP and ASVAB. * Prepares detailed reports of student performance indicating recommendations for the use of test results and their impact on improved student achievement. * Oversees the calculation of student grades, grade point averages, and class rank. * Ensures that students' permanent record cards are properly maintained and that the school acts in accordance with the Massachusetts General Laws regarding student record regulations. * Accepts the responsibility for the filing of guidance reports required for completion by local, state, and federal agencies. * Provides the superintendent and school committee with reports interpreting and evaluating guidance related programs when requested. * Prepares department's yearly budget and all materials for the department * Updates the high school's information with the NCAA Eligibility Center * Serves as the 504 coordinator for grades 7-12. * Coordinates the School's home tutoring program & the student scholarship program. * Participates in workshops, conferences, and other professional development programs. * Provides all students equitable access to a quality, developmentally appropriate, and comprehensive guidance counseling program focused on academic success, personal and social development, and career and college guidance. * Performs other duties requested by the administration.
