How to Apply Before April 30, 2024 Please upload the following in ONE document when applying online: * Statement of interest (either in the form of a cover letter or short essay) * Resume/CV * Transcripts Course Description PH 500: Investigating Public Issues is an interdisciplinary, team-taught course in the MPH core curriculum. This course utilizes an integrated and project-based learning approach to investigating the causes and effects of public health issues. In this course, students will learn how to investigate and define a pressing public health issue using evidence-based approaches to public health while developing skills to address an understanding of the structure and function of public health systems and the social, nutritional, and environmental determinants of health. Responsibilities* * Hold regular office hours to aid student learning. * Participate in regular teaching team meetings (7 faculty and 12 GSIs). * Facilitate learning activities in live sessions and in lab/discussion settings * Lead weekly in-class sessions with the support of core faculty * Develop class activities and/or programming for in-class sections * Address inter- and intra-group challenges grounded in anti-racism and equity tenets of public health * Grade student work.(N~20-30 students) * Guide students through professional interactions with non-academic class affiliates * Support and manage disability accommodations in class and related to assignments Required Qualifications* For Epid GSIs: * Graduate-level training in R or the successful completion of Biostat 521, Biostat 522, or Epid 674. For HMP/HBHE/NUTR/EHS: * 2nd year MPH students, completed MPH, or doctoral degree in public health or health-related field. Desired Qualifications* * Strong desire to work in a team setting or improve team-building skills * Willingness to try different pedagogical approaches including lecture, discussion, case studies, etc. * Willingness to mediate student discussion, including managing group challenges as they arise * Experience teaching in secondary or higher education settings, particularly large courses. * Experience mentoring students in research or advising settings. * General skills in organization and document management, including Canvas or learning technology. * Completed MPH or doctoral-level training in public health.
