The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary This Patient Financial Coordinator (PFC) acts as a crucial member of our OBGYN revenue cycle team to coordinate the financial aspects of the patient's care, while working together with our other dedicated team members in creating a positive and memorable patient experience. The PFC ensures patients are well educated about the financial and insurance aspects of their care, and that steps are taken by the practice to ensure proper payments are received from the patient or the patient's insurance company on a timely basis. The PFC serves as a resource to patients regarding financially related matters such that they are accessible to patients for ongoing questions regarding the aspect of their care. Responsibilities * Determine patient responsibility amounts based on the pre-certification performed. Communicate with the patient via phone or secure electronic messaging patient responsibility amounts to be paid in advance of the related procedure. * Serve as a resource to Physicians, Practice Managers, Patient Care Coordinators regarding any insurance coverage limitations may have an impact on the patient's care plan. * Communicate with patients as the patient's primary point of contact for all financial-related matters during their course of Care. * Provide Financial Consultations to explain to the patient the expected coverage, cost sharing and out of pocket maximums from their insurance company, if any, to include the exact amounts which will be patient responsibility (co-payments, co- insurances and deductibles). The PFC is required to collect pre-payments during the commencement of care to ensure positive self-pay cash flow. * Serve as a Patient Advocate for patients when they have trouble navigating their insurance company and address any discrepancies between the patient's understanding of their insurance coverage. * Respond to all patient inquiries, via either phone, email or in person, regarding their account and insurance related matters to include incorrect allocated funds and ensuring pre-payments are applied to the correct dates of services. * Educate the patient on the practice's guidelines and policies for Patient Financial Services. * Ensure signed financial consents and agreements have been reviewed and signed with the patient. * Collect related patient responsibility amounts confirmed with the payer during and prior to patient visits. The PFC will access departmental fee schedules to provide accurate pricing and quotes for services being performed. * Communicate to the front-end team via the EPIC system the amounts to be collected upon patient arrival. * Review monthly departmental pre-collection reports in attempt to collect prior self-pay balances before being outsourced to collection agencies with the goal of reducing the overall collection account referrals. * Determine patients for whom funds have not been collected for care to ensure the Site and Revenue Cycle Managers are informed. * Serve as a resource to front end team members and junior PFAs performing financial review, when questions arise regarding specific patient's accounts. * Attend scheduled team meetings as an active and contributing participant in the MFM Team and provide cross coverage. * Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested. Minimum Qualifications * Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience * Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. * Candidate must have comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 codes * Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel. * Previous experience with direct patient contact/coordination/scheduling Preferred Qualifications * Minimum of 3 years' experience working within an OBGYN practice. * Minimum of 3 years' experience with insurance verification, insurance authorizations and case management. * Previous experience with direct patient contact/coordination/scheduling. * Knowledge of EPIC and other electronic medical records.
