What you will do: The Senior Test Technician will work within the Engineering Lab team that is part of the Unitary Products Group (UPG) for Johnson Controls. In this division we design, test, manufacture, and assemble heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment for the light commercial and residential markets. Johnson Controls has two plants for UPG with approximately 1000 employees each; one in Norman, OK and the other in Wichita, KS. This position will be located in the Norman, OK Engineering Lab and will report to the Engineering Lab Manager. As a Senior Test Technician working in the Engineering Lab, you will work in a climate-controlled HVAC laboratory environment performing assignments pertinent to operational improvements and product testing as needed. You will have opportunity to learn various skills through proactive involvement in reliability testing, refrigeration testing, furnace testing, and continuous improvement projects. How you will do it: * You will be working with engineers and lab employees at the Norman, OK Engineering Lab to drive operational improvements and conduct a variety of testing in the Reliability, Cooling, and Heating Labs. * Prepare and install products or components, configure test setups, utilize data acquisition systems, analyze test data, generate test reports, and utilize computer software programs as necessary. * Support special test project needs by performing non-standard experiments with limited directions or supervision in a cross-functional team. * Read and interpret test standards and develop SOPs / work instructions. * Assist in establishing test procedures and problem-solving activities. * Follow established safety procedures, conduct audits, and maintain a clean work area. * Provide training to other technicians as necessary and lead small groups on short projects. * Other duties as required. What we look for: Required * High school diploma or equivalent combined with vocational technical training in HVAC. * Demonstrated working knowledge and skills in interpretation of wiring diagrams, modifying unit wiring and controls, instrumentation, and electro-mechanical troubleshooting. * Understanding of HVAC operation including function of the following: heat exchanger, blower, compressor, evaporator, condenser, motors, BTU, etc. * Ability to lift equipment, compressors, units, motors, sheet metal parts, etc. * Proficiency in MS Office applications. * Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and experience with data based decision making. * Excellent team collaboration and communication skills. * Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in laboratory environment. * Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations - percentages, fractions, average, etc. Preferred * Associate degree or equivalent * Advanced MS Office capabilities (i.e. MS Excel proficiency, VBA programming, etc.) * LEAN certification.
