Description THE POSITION The Fanconi Cancer Foundation seeks a dynamic Finance and Operations Director with a keen ability to integrate financial acumen with strategic HR leadership, fostering a culture of compliance, innovation, and ethical integrity. This individual should excel in aligning strategic initiatives with financial goals and demonstrate strong analytical skills and a collaborative leadership style. Specifically, the Finance and Operations Director leads treasury management, organizational cash flow and forecasting and proactively works with the Board Treasurer, Investment Committee, and investment advisor to maximize the return on investment of assets. The Director oversees auditing and performs all budgeting and accounting for project/programs, contracts, grants, and donations. The Finance and Operations Director develops and oversees general day-to-day operations and nonprofit compliance, human resources administration, including compensation and benefits systems, performance evaluation and recruiting processes, and supports FCF leadership on implementation of HR policy and practice. This position is an outstanding opportunity to maximize and strengthen the internal capacity of a well-respected, high-impact organization. This newly created position will be a strategic thought partner to the Chief Executive Officer and a key member of a dynamic leadership team embarking on a bold path to expand FA cancer research to the next level to increase impact and save lives. Most importantly, this leader must be supportive, collaborative, and passionate about the mission and future of FCF. THE ORGANIZATION Our mission is to improve the lives of people affected by Fanconi anemia and associated cancers worldwide by funding exceptional research and empowering our community. Founded in 1989 by parents Lynn and David Frohnmayer, Fanconi Cancer Foundation (FCF) contributions have been instrumental in understanding the disease and improving treatments, with more than $33 million funded for 260+ research projects worldwide. Life expectancy has more than doubled as treatments have drastically improved. Fanconi anemia (FA) is an inherited DNA-repair disease that may lead to bone marrow failure (aplastic anemia) and cancer (leukemia or solid tumors). What used to be considered a childhood blood disease in now recognized as a cancer susceptibility disease that affects children and adults. People with FA are 500-1200 times more likely to get cancer (especially head and neck and gynecological cancer) than those in the general population. Reporting to FCF's Chief Executive Officer, the Finance Director will partner with the leadership team and board of directors to achieve strategic goals and will provide leadership and management for the areas of finance, business planning and budgeting, and human resources. POSITION SUMMARY The Finance and Operations Director will report to the Chief Executive Officer, and oversee one direct report, the Associate Director of Events and Operations. Primary responsibilities include: Financial Management * Optimize accounting practices with external partners, ensuring efficiency and suitability of outsourced services. * Present accurate and timely financial reports, including monthly, annual status, donor segments, and oversight of financial, project/program, and grants accounting. * Manage contracts and grant agreements, including preparation for CEO review and signature. * Lead annual audit process and liaise with external auditors and the Budget & Investment Committee. * Oversee annual budgeting and planning with the CEO, monitoring progress, changes, and financial status. * Ensure financial schedules, data, and cash flow support operational requirements. * Manage treasury operations, cash flow, and forecasting, collaborating with the Board Treasurer, Budget & Investment Committee, and Investment Advisor. * Implement process improvements for finance and administrative policies, ensuring effective internal controls. * Communicate critical financial matters to the board of directors. * Oversee daily financial operations, including expenditures, banking activities, and liaison responsibilities. * Monitor and ensure accurate reporting of Board-designated funds and donor revenue. * Oversee and manage philanthropic contributions, corporate credit card accounts, payroll processes, and the 403b retirement program. * Ensure financial compliance with nonprofit laws in multiple states and oversee the annual 990 filing process with the IRS. * Monitor, track, and forecast grant payments over multiple years, providing financial reports and forecasting to the Award Review Committee. * Maintain the Oregon Community Foundation endowment. * Authorize payments within established parameters and train staff on budget management, expense reporting, and financial compliance. Human Resources and Operations * Oversee HR administration, including compensation, benefits, professional development, performance evaluation, and recruiting. * Ensure consistent and streamlined HR policies and procedures, including compliance with local, state, federal, and nonprofit-specific laws, including Paid Leave Oregon. * Provide comprehensive onboarding, ongoing training, and support for supervisors on HR practices. * Resolve interpersonal conflicts. * Coordinate with insurance brokers for employee health, dental, vision, and life insurance policies, and maintain Flexible Spending Accounts. * Approve and monitor employee paid time off requests and balances, and maintain workers' compensation insurance in multiple states. * Ensure adherence to DEI policy and participate in the DEI committee. * Develop strategies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness as the organization grows. * Oversee operational improvements and manage workflows of the Associate Director of Events and Operations. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional with excellent communication and relationship building skills, able to effectively collaborate with programmatic and fundraising colleagues. The ideal candidate will bring a track record of keen analytic, organizational, and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making and be comfortable with Board level presentations and discussion facilitation. As part of an organization that is intricately entwined with families affected by Fanconi anemia, the successful candidate will bring a high degree of empathy, compassion, and responsiveness to their interactions and be committed to the mission. The Finance and Operations Director must enjoy a close-knit, supportive team that depends on each other to accomplish their respective tasks. A bachelor's degree and not less than 5+ years of experience with managing complex financial systems and the operations of a nonprofit is required. Master's degree in nonprofit management, MPA or relevant field is preferred. An equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered. Occasional travel is required. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS * $95,000 - $100,000 annually, commensurate with related experience. * This is a full-time, exempt position. * This role is based in Eugene, Oregon with flexibility for a hybrid work model that includes ~4-10 days/month in the office. * Employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee and 50% for dependents. * Employer-paid life, accidental death, and disability insurance policy - $20,000. * 403(b) retirement plan through Vanguard with 100% matching up to $2,000 annually. * Eleven paid holidays per year. * Paid Time Off accrued at 12 hours per month for a total of 144 hours annually. * Family/Medical Leave for up to 12 weeks for qualifying circumstances. * Bereavement Leave for up to 5 workdays paid leave for qualifying circumstances. * Travel expenses are covered or reimbursed for all FCF-related travel. * Relocation package available with discussion.
