Job Type Unclassified Department Transportation About the Position The primary focus of this position is to plan, direct, supervise, and review the work of staff within the Roadway Maintenance Division. This defined retirement benefit requires a 12.27% monthly contribution rate and includes a 100% employer match on Day 1 * Learn more at Work With Us | Maricopa County, AZ We Require * Five years of experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of roadways, of which at least two years are at a supervisory level * Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a closely related field * An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis * Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire We Also Value * Additional experience in the area of assignment * Credentialed as an American Public Works Association Public Works Supervisor Job Contributions * Manage and direct the development, implementation, and evaluation of plans, work processes, policies, systems, and procedures to achieve annual goals, objectives, and work standards. Oversee multiple yards at various locations * Provide leadership and work with staff to develop and retain highly competent, customer service-oriented staff through selection, training, and day-to-day management * Participate in the preparation and administration of the assigned budget; submit budget recommendations; prepare and submit requisitions for supplies and materials; and monitor expenditures * Plan, manage, and evaluate staff performance; establish performance requirements and personal development targets for assigned staff; regularly monitor performance and provide coaching for performance improvement and development; take disciplinary action to address performance deficiencies in coordination with Human Resources * Plan, organize, control, integrate, and evaluate the work of the Division staff * Develop, implement, and monitor short and long-term plans, goals, and objectives focused on achieving the department's priorities * Personally respond to inquiries and complaints from the public and user departments; attend meetings with other departments, agencies, and organizations. Respond to emergencies and after-hour calls * Establish, direct, and maintain an ongoing, regular safety program and work standards; ensure staff compliance with safety rules and regulations * Apply process improvement and quality management principles to assigned areas of responsibility * Perform other duties as assigned Working Conditions * Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly or requires walking or standing to a significant degree * Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions * Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration * Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel * The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations.
