Reports to: Chief Executive Officer Purpose: The Turnip Truck is looking for a talented, experienced, and passionate individual to serve as our next Store Director. The Store Director has responsibility for the overall operation and profitability of the store. You will work with department managers providing leadership and ensuring that Team Members are supervised, and that the entire store staff is well-trained and productive. The Store Director is responsible for continuously evaluating all departments and coaching department managers to maximize each departments contribution to the stores overall success. Responsibilities: OPERATIONS * Ensure compliance with all applicable laws: business licenses, permits, health regulations, labor laws, etc in conjunction with the Leadership Team. * Schedule store labor, or review schedules set by department managers, to meet goals for labor costs and customer service. * Create and improve systems of operations in conjunction with the Leadership Team. * Along with Shift Leaders, ensure a constant management presence during all store open hours. * Continuous training working side by side with staff on the floor during peak hours. * Maintain security of building, equipment and inventory. * Ensure regular store and department inventories. * Develop store security and safety training programs for staff. * Coordinate weekly meetings of Store Management Team, including department managers. MERCHANDISING * Responsible for maintaining a clean, beautiful and friendly environment; all departments well merchandised, make store exciting - fun to shop. * Create and maintain a strong working relationship with all staff. * Stay informed and engaged in carrying out department goals. * Audit store daily; communicating likes, taking on problem areas, uphold clear merchandising standards, ensure whole store is ready when opened in morning and is still ready and stocked for peak hours in late afternoon, store is clean, faced, cases full, end caps reworked. * Promote excellent customer service This means: whole-store focus, products in stock, great quality, beautiful presentation, employees focused on customers. COMMUNICATION AND SUPPORT * Manager maintains good morale by facilitating clear and kind communications. * Have a working knowledge of department manager duties and all duties of the department. * Create and maintain an effective, working team that supports the company goals. * Keep everyone focused on purpose: insure all employees are trained and feel empowered to be excellent in their jobs, encourage and recognize people who take initiative. * Create an environment of positive and respectful interactions between all team members. * Support direct communications - Model good listening skills and empathy, assist people to work together. LEADERSHIP * Manager directs store and company for continual growth. * Constantly evaluating systems for improvement and efficiency. * Stand behind and enforce company policies and/or work with Leadership Team to improve them. * Set example to team of commitment, work ethic, attitude, flexibility and diversity. * Ask for help when challenges arise. * Utilize and broadcast financial information. Support all staff in understanding finances and meeting budget goals. * Coordinate with other company locations and operations to support maximum efficiency. PLANNING AND FINANCE * Participate in development of annual operating, capital and cash budgets for store with management team. * Monitor deviations from budget, take corrective action and report on actions taken. * Review department financial performance reports sharing any concerns with Leadership Team, managers, buyers and plan corrective action as needed. * Review and generate all department reports. * Submit non-resale expenditures to accounting within budget parameters. PERSONNEL * Hire and evaluate Assistant Store Director, Shift Leaders and Department Managers second interviews conducted by owner and designee for approval. * Final interview on hiring of all other store positions. * Ensure all store employees receive orientations, safety training and on-the-job training. * Ensure all store employees receive timely performance evaluations. * Suggest and apply pay increases for all store employees after approval through administrative office. * Take disciplinary action as needed following established handbook policies. * Schedule labor hours within payroll allocation, while ensuring the proper staffing for key periods. * Perform other tasks assigned. QUALIFICATIONS * Good communication skills, good listening and clear instructions. * Demonstrated leadership skills initiative, delegating, motivating, problem solving. * Supervisory experience: hiring, training, evaluating, and termination. * Ability to motivate others to work as a positive team. * Must have computer skills including excel and word. * Ability to handle multiple demands in a calm and effective manner. * Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments. * Ability to read financials. * Retail experience. * Knowledge of products and trends in the natural food industry. PHYSICAL ABILITIES * Ability to lift 40+ pounds. * Stand for 4+ hours at a time.
