Title: Control Room Operator Position Type: Contract Location: CT Reports to: Operations Shift Supervisor Status: Non-Exempt Job Summary: PIC Group is seeking an experienced Control Room Operator for a large, simple cycle power plant located in Connecticut. As a Control Room Operator, you will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all plant equipment, ensuring compliance with written operating procedures and plant policies. Reporting to the Operations Shift Supervisor, the Control Room Operator plays a key role in troubleshooting, monitoring, and adjusting plant systems during normal and emergency operations. This contract role offers a dynamic environment to hone your technical skills in a fast-paced power generation facility. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Oversee the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound operation of plant equipment * Properly operate Control Room, boiler, steam turbine, plant auxiliary equipment and systems, combustion turbines and auxiliaries during normal and emergency operation * Communicate information clearly, both verbally and in writing * Troubleshoot plant equipment to resolve operational problems * Operate various computer systems to receive, analyze, comprehend, and input data * Monitor and record data available using various instruments, recording charts, annunciator systems and other monitoring devices onto shift logs as directed by plant operational procedures * Implement Plant Emergency Procedures as needed * Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings * Communicate conditions of plant system and equipment to others * Apply knowledge of steam power plant operations and basic power plant principles to daily decision-making and work tasks * Operate computers and printers * Discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals from control panel * Work without supervision inspection while carrying out duties * Take, record and analyze readings of various electrical and mechanical meters * Knowledge of and ability to operate various switches and valves and the effect each has on the total operation * Requires operation of a personal computer * Meet physical requirements of the job such as perform tasks while standing, walking, climbing and squatting. Job Requirements: * Be able to perform effectively in a team environment without close supervision, * Can work well with and through others internal and external to the plant. * Use discretion concerning confidential and sensitive company information, demonstrate verbal and written communication skills. * Performance of duties requires working rotating shifts and response to calls 24 hours/day, seven days/week. * In the absence of specific orders and/or directives, the Operator exercises initiative, using experience and good judgment in Plant operation. * The Control Room Operator must always comply with plant policies including those concerning safety and environmental. * Requires operation of a motor vehicle; valid driver's license is required. * Excellent technical and organizational skills. * Demonstrated leadership characteristic and potential Physical Requirements: * Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment. * Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities. * Work in and around rotating equipment, high voltage electrical equipment to345KV, high noise areas.
