This is a paid internship, working 16 hours per week from July 8th, 2024 through December 20th 2024. Current Salary is $18.07 per hour. We provide citizens with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions; convene community dialogue; bring the arts to everyone and engage audiences to share their stories. We help students and teachers thrive in 21st-century classrooms, and take people of all ages on journeys of exploration- exposing them to new people, places and ideas. This role will work hybrid between working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters and working remotely. KQED requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Position Summary & Essential Functions: * The editorial intern will report and write weekly event picks, news briefs, and shorter breaking stories online. You will be strongly encouraged to file at least one in-depth, feature length story during your internship. Other Job Functions: * Contributing to group projects and assisting editors as needed. Some list management or formatting tasks may arise from time to time, as well as occasional audio or photography assignments. Knowledge/Experience Required: * Experience writing and reporting * A natural curiosity and open mind * A passion for the arts in all its forms * Strong writing voice * Solid work ethic * Commitment to serving the community Knowledge/Experience Desired: * Fluency in Wordpress or equivalent CMS platform * Photography and audio skills * Ability to drive for stories * Nimbleness and creativity on social media * Familiarity with public records * Deep knowledge of the Bay Area arts scene Growth & Development Opportunities: * This is not a fetch-coffee internship. You will be mentored by award-winning editors providing hands-on guidance and direction to develop your skills as much as possible and prepare you for work at national outlets.
