JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Hours: 9a-5p JOB SUMMARY The Training Lieutenant is a Security Supervisor and performs the functions of all ARMED officers. The Training Lieutenant is a seasoned STHS Security Department employee responsible for implementing the Security Department's extensive training program. This position manages the department's qualifications and certifications as required by Louisiana law, State regulations, and STHS policies under the directions of the Director of Security (Chief). This position reports directly to the Security Manager (Captain) and the Chief and tasked with researching, creating, and executing approved training requirements, certifications, and qualifications in addition to the normal watch related duties and hospital security responsibilities. Supervisory duties include, but are not limited to, quarterly training regiments, maintaining all training records for the department, instructing and developing Lead Security Officers (Sergeants) and Armed Security Officers, mentoring new hires, overseeing squad based training, and providing training based evaluations of all department personnel. The Training Lieutenant enforces and follows all Security and St. Tammany Health Systems' policies and procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be able to read, write and follow written or oral instructions. 7+ years of armed security related experience is required. 3+ years of armed security related supervisory experience is required. Prior certification or registration with the Louisiana State Board of Private Security examiners is recommended. Must be certified by a State certified, recognized, and STHS approved firearms, handcuffing, and/or law enforcement training entity. You must not have any felony convictions. You must own and maintain ownership of a privately owned cellular phone for emergencies and on-call events. Must satisfactory complete firearm training, written tests, and qualify on the firing range. Firearms recertification must be performed annually. Must be eligible and willing to work 12 hour shifts, day and/or night to include weekends. You must follow the Use of Force Policy and procedures. Must agree to and sign off on the STHS firearm affidavit. Must have a State Firearms Certification, valid and current state issued driver's license. You must have a minimum of 3 years of certified training experience; must have attended State certified Trainer and Leadership Development courses. Must maintain and provide proof of automobile insurance (at his/her own expense) in amounts which meet at least the minimum liability coverage limits required by the state of their residence. Must successfully pass a criminal and driving record background checks prior to hiring and annually thereafter; Driving records shall not contain any of the following: a suspended or revoked driver's license, 3 or more moving violations in the past 36 months, 2 or more accidents in the past 36 months, 1 or more instances of driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI) within the past 24 months, at fault in a fatal accident within the past 5 years, leaving the scene of an accident within the past 36 months, and/or reckless driving within the past 12 months. Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience as a Police Officer's Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certified law enforcement officer, federal law enforcement officer, military enforcement officer, or armed hospital security officer preferred. Training and experience with conflict resolution and ability to de-escalate hostile situations desirable. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 100 pounds is required. Physical Effort required: Constant (67%-100%) - talking, hearing, seeing Frequently (34%-66%) - balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling/feeling Occasionally (1%-33%) - lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, climbing(stairs, ladders, etc.), crawling EMPLOYMENT Each St. Tammany Health System staff member is expected to conduct himself or herself according to our mission, vision and values.
