Position Summary As a Senior Chemist, you will work with a team of scientists and engineers to identify new technologies, develop concepts, and conduct bench, pilot, and production level experiments to develop new and improved polymer materials. You will work on projects aimed at driving performance in new and existing battery products to extend Energizer's product line and maintain Energizer's technological leadership and competitiveness in the battery industry. Responsibilities * Work on polymer material related research and development projects aimed at implementing new and improved battery products and maintaining a robust innovation roadmap in the areas of performance, cost, quality, and supply assurance * Apply fundamental understanding of polymer science to a diverse set of materials and applications * Assess existing and develop improved thermoplastics, adhesives, sealants, thermosets, and the processes used to manufacture their end use * Follow developments in the field of polymer science and engineering and to identify those developments that may be applied to improved battery materials, processes, and products * Interact with cross-functional teams including marketing, procurement, operations, legal, and external third parties as needed to reach objectives * Develops concepts and conducts experiments to identify new and improved electrode materials and battery performance * Characterizes chemical properties of materials and battery electrodes and identifies ways to optimize these properties * Applies statistical methods to experimental design, effectively analyzes data to draw supportable conclusions, and makes recommendations on next steps based on data * Develops written action plans and provides regular written documentation and oral presentations which both assess and record the progress of the work * Participates in the safety program. Defines equipment requirements and establishes and updates equipment and documentation that meets OSHA standards and Company policies * Generates and evaluates new engineering or scientific knowledge that leads to new or improved polymer materials, batteries, or processes, having marketable cost/performance advantages by designing and conducting robust experiments * Acquires knowledge of the pertinent technical literature * Apply fundamental understanding of polymer science to a diverse set of materials and applications * Recommends technical approaches and collaboratively develops project plans with management to achieve assigned objectives * Works in parallel with process development, product development, and manufacturing and implementation resources to ensure capable transfer to product * Collaborates with colleagues, as well as external networks and partners to leverage information and services necessary to meet assigned objectives What we are looking for * Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering * Minimum 5 years relevant work experience in industrial manufacturing, a technical laboratory or similar environments * Process development knowledge/experience; ability to scale products and processes from benchtop to production * Lead cross-functional teams through a decision matrix stage gate process to deliver time, cost, and performance objectives * Project team leadership experience * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Proficient Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook * Ability to analyze for cause, solve problems, and apply fundamental material science and polymers chemistry and scientific principles to work assignments What we prefer * Master's degree or PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering * Experience in Polymers Chemistry * Experience with chemical manufacturing, process engineering, and process control * Understanding/experience with design of experiments and statistical data analysis software and theory Come join us!
