GENERAL SUMMARY Salary: $57,118.38 minimum - $71,398.97 mid-point annually (Depending on qualifications) To conduct traffic engineering studies to determine locations for traffic engineering devices; to coordinate school safety programs; and to investigate and resolve complaints of traffic hazards; review design plans for compliance with current City Code. You can search for this position's full job descriptionhere. SUPERVISION * General supervision is provided by the Manager of Traffic Engineering and Street Lighting. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct & Rules of Behavior outlined in chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual. * Conduct various traffic engineering planning and operational studies including private development trip generation, 85th percentile speeds, traffic signal and traffic sign warrants, and intersection and driveway levels of service. * Coordinate school traffic safety programs; evaluate pedestrian and vehicular school access routes, speed zones and signing; determine locations for school crossing guards; maintain a cooperative relationship with Mesquite Independent School District. * Investigate and resolve complaints of traffic hazards, view obstructions and restricted sight distance; work with the public and other City departments and divisions concerning traffic safety related issues; recommend appropriate actions; maintain records on hazard resolution. * Review developer plan submittals regarding driveway access; review requirements for location, width, curb return radii, and driveway separation distance; estimate trip generation and driveway levels of service, prepare and present comments for the Development Review Committee. * Manage City traffic count program; place and retrieve automatic traffic counters, maintain traffic count database, respond to inquiries for traffic count data. * Respond to neighborhood traffic management complaints; conduct stop sign warrant studies, investigate speeding complaints and make recommendations to the Police Department on enforcement locations, investigate parking complaints and make recommendations for resolution. * Process requests for 10 mph alley speed limit signs and alley speed bumps. * Review public street lighting plans for new developments; process mid-block street lighting requests perform quarterly arterial street light inspection. * Process requests for neighborhood block parties. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Prepare cost estimates for repair of damaged traffic signs and signals; submit estimates to appropriate offices. * Update a variety of traffic signals and signs inventories and databases including signal and stop sign lists; bridge load limit, truck route, and speed limit maps; notify appropriate departments of changes. * Stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of traffic engineering. * Provide CADD support for Traffic Engineering Division design activities. * Perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION * Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering with college coursework in civil or traffic engineering and computer aided design and drafting. EXPERIENCE * No experience required. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES * Possession of a valid driver's license. * Possession of a valid Texas Engineer-in-Training Certificate or obtain certificate within one year of employment as a condition of continued employment.
