Position Summary The Dignitary Protection Unit (DPU) is responsible for the protection of the Governor, First Family, and the Lieutenant Governor. The DPU also plans and directs protective details for high ranking state officials, visiting dignitaries such as Governors, Lieutenant Governors, cabinet officials, members of visiting trade delegations, religious figures and other officials who may be controversial. These protective details are conducted throughout the entire state of Wisconsin and may be conducted outside the confines of Wisconsin or the United States. The nature of this work is highly confidential. Salary Information This position is in schedule-range (81-03) with an hourly rate of $49.35, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan. Job Details WisDOT does not sponsor work visas. Qualifications A qualified candidate must meet both minimum requirements: 1) successful completion of the "Cadet" training program at the State Patrol Academy located at Fort McCoy, WI and is certified as a sworn Law Enforcement Officer (or eligible for immediate recertification) and 2) completion of the State Patrol Trooper/ Inspector probationary period.
