Department Summary Under the umbrella of UCLA Campus Life, a division of Student Affairs, UCLA Recreation is a large department with approximately 90 career/contract and over 1,000 temporary/part-time employees. UCLA Recreation provides extensive access to a broad range of recreational activities and services. The department offers programming that encompasses the competitive, passive, social, cultural, and instructional aspects of recreational activity. In addition, UCLA Recreation manages 15 of the University's recreational and athletic facilities offering recreation, sport, and numerous multi-use options for student and university events. The UCLA Recreation Office of Competitive Sports operates and manages; 55+ club sports, a variety of different intramural sports for students, faculty, staff, and other affiliated individuals; unified sports in coordination with the UCLA Special Olympics student group; instructional sports; Intramural Field reservations and maintenance. Position Summary The Adaptive and Instructional Competitive Sports Coordinator reports to the Competitive Sports Program Director and participates in the coordination, supervision, and delivery of programs for the Competitive Sports office, and involves in scheduling, payroll, student staff training, curriculum development, program evaluation and marketing for participant programs. The incumbent is tasked to coordinate and administer a comprehensive instructional sports program (tennis, basketball, volleyball, etc) and other strategically identified sports & activities. Successful management of revenue generating groups classes, specialty programs and a robust private training program are required. The incumbent also serves as departmental liaison to UCLA Centers and Academic departments (CAE and Disability Studies minor) is the primary departmental resource for activity-based interventions to address and assess the needs of individuals with illnesses and/or disabling conditions, who desire to utilize Recreation facilities and programs for psychological and physical health, recovery, and well-being. The incumbent will cooperate with, and lead, departmental units on best practices related to disability services to meet the needs of our patrons. To support the adaptive initiatives (with support from the Content and Assessment Analyst) the incumbent is tasked with researching and overseeing the proposal review, submission, acceptance, and management for extramurally funded grants, cooperative agreements, gifts and endowments, contracts from non-profit, for-profit industry, and government sponsors. This position involves a high degree of self- management and must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and day-to-day guidance, and in a team environment. Regular staff meetings are held for the exchange of information and review of program and department priorities, with special meetings or work sessions scheduled as needed. Performance is reviewed annually, with addition Salary & Compensation * UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications Working knowledge of and skill in cardiopulmonary resuscitation practices to assist in medical or accident situations where CPR is needed. (Required) Working knowledge of current standards of related program areas, knowledge of the recreation industry as related to risk management, program design, safety standards, techniques and regulations etc. (Required)Broad working knowledge of recreation activities, programs and curriculum options, particularly in the campus (university) recreation setting. Experience developing and planning progressive instruction classes and promoting and market fee-based programs to a diverse university audience, including students, faculty, staff and alumni. (Required)Knowledge and experience with supervisory skills, including interviewing, mentoring, managing conflict, team building and problem solving. Experience leading instructor training and including awareness of activity specific materials, teaching and evaluation. Ability to mentor people college-age-and-above in professional development. (Required)Must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace with both attention to detail and global picture of the organization. (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training (Required) Master's Degree Master's Degree in Sports Management or a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
