Nuvance Health has a network of convenient hospital and outpatient locations - Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut, and Northern Dutchess Hospital, Putnam Hospital Center and Vassar Brothers Medical Center in New York - plus multiple primary and specialty care physician practices locations, including The Heart Center, a leading provider of cardiology care. Non-acute care is offered through various affiliates, Summary: The purpose of the PGY-1 Resident Position is to provide medical school graduates with their first year of training as matched to the Nuvance residency program of their choosing by the National Residency Match Program (NRMP) MATCH Process. Residents are expected to have an adult learner mentality, a devotion to lifelong learning, and a passion for delivery of excellent care to the population served based on scope of services in the department. This position is applicable only to those Residents who have been formally accepted to our graduate medical education programs for the 2024-2025 academic year. Responsibilities: 1.Develop a personal program of self-study and professional growth with guidance from the faculty. 2.Participate in safe, effective, and compassionate patient care under supervision commensurate with their level of advancement and responsibility. 3.Participate fully in the educational and scholarly activities of their program and as required, assume responsibility for teaching and supervising other residents and students. 4.Participate in institutional programs and activities involving the medical staff and adhere to established practices, procedures, and policies of the institution. 5.Participate in program/departmental/institutional committees, especially those that relate to patient care activities. 6.Participate in evaluation of the quality of education provided by the program. 7.Develop an understanding of ethical, socioeconomic, and medical/legal issues that affect graduate medical education and how to apply cost containment measures in the provision of patient care. 8.Comply with established ethical behavior and practices. 9.Adhere to federal, state, and Nuvance deadlines and requirements regarding licensure and registration for the practice of medicine. 10.Respond to the Office of Graduate Medical Education and the resident's program/department for information related to position/rank and function. 11.Adhere to all departmental, GME, Nuvance, and ACGME policies and procedures. 12.Engage in activities that allow a healthy examination of and joyful engagement in the physician's role. Take full advantage of resources provided by the program that support a positive attitude. 13.Maintain and Model REACH Values (Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Compassion, Honor). 14.Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance to conferences, lectures, and other academic learning assignments with the understanding that patient care always comes first. 15.Performs other duties as required. Other information: Applicants with one of the following qualifications are eligible for appointment to a Nuvance residency program: * Graduation from a medical school in the United States or Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). * Graduation from a college of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). * Graduation from a medical school outside the United States or Canada whom hold, or will hold prior to appointment, a valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). All applications for PGY-1, and some PGY-2 (when applicable - for example anesthesia) positions will be through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and all positions filled through the National Residency Match Program (NRMP) MATCH process.
