The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary The Department of Anesthesiology at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a medical sociologist for a NIH funded study of the impact specialist palliative care among patients with metastatic cancer. The study is a mixed-methods study, and the individual hired will work on the qualitative arm of the project. The person hired for this position will collaborate with the research team during data collection and analysis. Applicants are expected to possess a strong background in medical sociology, and qualitative research methods. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in conducting in-depth interviews, site visits, and qualitative data analysis. Responsibilities * Collaborate with the research team to design, plan, and facilitate qualitative site visits and interviews * Develop research questions and conceptual frameworks with a focus on sociological perspectives * Implement qualitative research methods, such as interviews, site visits, and observation (will require travel throughout the U.S.) * Utilize qualitative analysis techniques to interpret data and identify themes, patterns, and, trends in the data * Contribute to the development of manuscripts and publications for peer-reviewed journals Minimum Qualifications * A master's degree in Sociology, Public Health, Anthropology, or a related field * Proven experience in designing and conducting qualitative research projects in the healthcare setting * Familiarity with ATLAS.ti or other qualitative software * 3-5 years of experience in qualitative research * Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary research teams Preferred Qualifications * A doctoral degree in Sociology, Public Health, Anthropology or a related field * Published research in peer-reviewed journals * 5-8 years of experience in qualitative health research Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / Veteran Columbia University is committed to the hiring of qualified local residents.
