The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
1. SCOPE OF WORK Non-personal service for Catholic Music Services. Provides choir and musicians for Catholic worship, liturgy, and rites. The Music Director/Submusic Director will assist the Wing Chaplain, Senior Faith Group Chaplains, or an individual appointed by the Wing Chaplain in planning and executing religious music in support of commander-provided free-exercise of religion opportunities at Ellsworth AFB, SD.
2. SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS The Music Director/Submusic Director shall have a minimum of four (4) years of experience leading proper liturgical musical support for Catholic Worship services. They shall have available resources to provide music for a variety of musical styles and be able to work in a religiously pluralistic environment. A willingness to work with people of diverse faith expressions is essential.
Additionally, the Music Director/Submusic Director must:
Clearly communicate in English and conduct administrative requirements in verbal and written clarity.
Preserve any confidential issues seen or heard within the Chapel staff or facilities.
Maintain a professional working relationship with Chapel staff, faith communities, and other personnel.
Be a registered member of a Catholic parish, as verified by a baptismal certificate.
Live in full communion with the Catholic Church and participate fully in the sacramental life of the Church.
Have no record of recent unsatisfactory contractual performance as documented in the Music Director Performance Assessment Reporting System (CPARS).
Demonstrate knowledge and ability to provide a suitable liturgical choir, as well as all musical instruments and sound equipment.
Be free of any job release due to unsatisfactory performance.
3. MUSIC DIRECTOR/SUBMUSIC DIRECTOR SPECIFIC TASKS
Coordinate with the Wing Chaplain and Senior Faith Group leaders to provide musical support to worship, liturgies, and rites for Ellsworth AFB Catholic Services at Black Hills Chapel, 1192 Foulis Ave, Ellsworth AFB, SD 57706.
Provide choir and musical support for one regular Catholic Mass currently scheduled on Sundays at 0930, along with an estimated 20 special Catholic Masses/Services/Funerals/Memorials, totaling approximately 72 services per year.
Be informed NLT 1 week prior to any special events needing Catholic music support. Duration of each performance is approximately two (2) hours, with necessary preparations prior to each service (approximately 60 minutes for familiarization with the music material).
Conduct a minimum of one rehearsal per week for one (1) hour.
Organize, rehearse, and lead a choir for Catholic Mass, which will include at minimum a pianist and singer.
Be responsible for the choir and musical support for memorial/funeral services when requested by the Wing Chaplain.
Provide a musician and choir director (2 personnel required) to assist in the selection of appropriate music for the Catholic Mass/service in collaboration with the Wing Chaplain.
Submit all proposed music and instrumentation in writing to the Wing Chaplain or appointed individual no later than seven (7) duty days prior to the service date.
Receive approval/disapproval for music selections within two (2) business days of submission.
Ensure the suitability of music is determined by the sermon message of the Priest in charge of the service.
Coordinate and conduct weekly choir rehearsals with the Wing Chaplain or appointed individual for approval.
Interested candidates are requested to forward their resume along with three references from individuals who can attest to the candidate’s good work and steadiness. Candidates who do not possess the specific attributes/qualifications in "2. SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS" above need not apply. This is a part-time position with compensation based on budget and the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.
