Summary
The Chauffeur provides safe and efficient motor transportation for Board members and other staff conducting official Board business.
Duties and Responsibilities
Operates Board vehicles to transport Board staff in accord with supervisory instructions regarding vehicle to be used, destination, purpose of trip, and any other special instructions. Maintains Board vehicles in safe and clean operating condition. Performs routine minor maintenance, service, and safety checks. Reports service problems promptly to the supervisor. May be required to work on weekends, on holidays, and beyond normal shift hours, sometimes with limited advance notice. Complies with Motor Transport operating procedures and applicable Board policies and procedures. Maintains a well-groomed appearance while on duty, and keeps Board-issued clothing clean. Keeps work area (Drivers' room, Board garage, office) clean, neat, and in good order. This position is designated a "critical/emergency" position, and requires compliance with Board policies and procedures regarding hazardous weather and other non-routine operations. Other duties may be occasionally assigned to support Motor Transport operations. May provide assistance to other areas of Facility Services as needed.
Position Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent experience . Must possess
three years specialized experience .
Requires possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license . Employee must
possess and maintain an excellent driving record having no points or major moving violations within the last seven years . Periodic checks of driving records will be performed and incumbent must provide the information necessary to verify that his/her driving record is acceptable. Must have a thorough knowledge of the Washington metropolitan area including principal US government buildings, hotels, and transportation facilities. Must know how to perform basic automotive repair, use GPS and hard copy maps. Must be able to follow relevant safety regulations and prevailing laws governing motor vehicle operation and ensure that passengers follow safety regulations. Will be responsible for selecting routes and safe and expeditious completion of assigned tasks. Must be highly dependable, able to exercise independent judgment, and have good communication and customer service skills. This position is subject to the Board's random drug testing program. This position is designated a "critical/emergency" position, and requires compliance with Board policies and procedures regarding hazardous weather and other non-routine operations. May be required to work on weekends, holidays, and beyond normal shift hours, sometimes with limited advance notice.
Incumbent has contact with all levels of Board staff and visitors. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Physical Demand/Work Environment:
May frequently be required to sit, talk and listen for long periods of time. Must be able to read, speak, write and communicate effectively. Must have good eye hand coordination and manual dexterity; be able to operate an automobile as well as associated objects, tools, or controls and be able react quickly to changing driving conditions. On occasion may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, walk and lift or move up to 50lbs. Must have good peripheral vision, be able to see objects close or at a distance, be free of color blindness and have vision correctable to 20/20 with glasses or contact lenses. May be exposed to bright lights, extreme temperatures, loud noise, dust, gas and/or fumes.
This position requires an onsite presence in Washington DC.
