Position Summary The Cost Accountant plays a key role as part of the accounting team in managing and assisting with daily accounting tasks, including cost accounting, fixed asset management, inventory control, and general accounting. The Cost Accountant will also provide vital support during monthly and year-end financial closings to ensure accurate financial reporting in line with company policies and procedures. This position must be able to work in a fast-paced manufacturing, retail environment at a high level of accuracy with extreme attention to detail and operate as a team player offering support and back up to the entire accounting team.
Core Responsibilities Cost Accounting: Collect and analyze data on production costs, operational expenses, labor, material, and overhead costs. Maintain cost accounting data to ensure accurate product costing, margin analysis, and variance reporting. Assist in setting cost standards, reviewing bills of materials, and monitoring cost fluctuations. Fixed Assets: Oversee the fixed assets register, including additions, disposals, and depreciation schedules. Ensure compliance with capitalization policies and accurate reporting of capital asset transactions. Inventory Control: Support inventory counts, reconciliations, and monitoring to ensure accurate reporting of inventory values. Assist with maintaining accurate cost reporting and inventory tracking. General Accounting: Perform daily general ledger maintenance, including reconciliations, accruals, and financial analysis. Ensure financial statements are accurate and comply with internal controls and GAAP. Assist in audits by preparing necessary documentation and supporting external auditors. Additional Responsibilities Accounts Payable (AP): Assist in processing vendor invoices and ensure timely and accurate payments in accordance with company policies. Reconcile AP sub-ledger accounts and assist with month-end accruals. Accounts Receivable (AR): Provide support for customer invoicing, payment processing, and collections to maintain healthy cash flow. Reconcile AR accounts and follow up on overdue balances as needed. Financial Closing Assistance: Provide support for the month-end and year-end closing processes by preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial schedules. Adheres to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes Aptitude for problem solving and troubleshooting Be able to work in a team environment. Other duties as needed
Knowledge and Skill Requirements Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, preferred. 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in cost accounting, fixed assets, AP, AR, and inventory management. Experience with ERP systems (SAGE or Epicor experience is a plus). Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational and communication skills. Familiarity with financial reporting and GAAP. Experience working in a manufacturing environment. Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive attitude
