Introduction The Department of Information Technology (DoIT) leads the State in the creation and implementation of information technology solutions that improve IT infrastructure and government services and keep Maryland current within IT industry trends. Main Purpose of the Job The Maryland Department of Information Technology (DoIT) is the perfect place for the creative, adaptable professional who wants to positively impact state government and Maryland's citizens. DoIT is looking to hire a Fiscal Policy Intern interested in joining our finance and budget team. Position Duties Review existing process documentation for departmental structure and relevant accounting principles Develop a detailed work plan with timelines, deliverables, and resource allocation Identify subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for each key accounting process (accounts payable, accounts receivables, fixed assets, budget general ledger, year-end process). Update policy and procedures and recommend improvements. SME interviews and process documentation Develop interview questionnaires for each key accounting process and specific roles Conduct individual interviews with identified SMEs, capturing detailed information on: Daily, monthly, and yearly close tasks: What types of process use, and controls are performed to accomplish task. Identify Challenges and opportunities for improvement. Step-by-step process. Document detailed written procedures for each step, including roles, responsibilities. Develop flowcharts and process mapping tools to document each accounting business process for clarity and consistency. Document roles and responsibilities involved in each step of the process. Identify key performance indicators (KPIs) for each process. Accounting Manual Development/Draft the Accounting manual incorporating: Process maps for each key accounting process. Create a step-by-step process. Conduct internal reviews Qualifications Candidate must be a Junior, Senior, or graduate student studying business, accounting, public administration, policy, or another related field. Student must be a Maryland resident or attend school in MD or DC. Student must have a 3.0 GPA or higher and will be asked to provide their transcript Anyone applying for this internship needs to be either a U.S. Citizen or have Legal Alien stat us. ?
