Position Information Position Availability: Position Title: Student Assistant Specialist: GNARLS Mascot Representative Requisition Number: 0406073519 Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: Stdnt Srvcs/Stdnt Actvs Responsibilities: STUDENT ASSISTANT SPECIALIST: GNARLS MASCOT REPRESENTATIVE The Student Leadership & Involvement office oversees community building programs, and seeks a student worker to support programming for commuter students. This position reports to the Associate Director for Recreation & Commuter Engagement. The New School was founded by forward-thinking educators in 1919 to defy the intellectual constraints of a traditional college education. RESPONSIBILITIES * Serve as a student officer on the Gnarls Squad Team, attending various on and off campus events hosted through SLI. * Wear mascot suit and attend events as Gnarls. * Support the management of the Gnarls schedule and related communications * Staff events, meetings, and office hours in person. * Prepare for events and support in mascot suit transportation. * Process expense reports and purchases related to the Gnarls Squad events team. WORK MODE * Hybrid/Split - Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. SALARY RANGE $18 - $20 / hour Minimum Qualifications: * Demonstrated commitment to community building and teamwork * Reliable, organized, and communicative * Able to manage a hybrid schedule and confirm weekly changes for event staffing * Must be able to work at least one weekend or evening event per month Preferred Qualifications: * Prior experience as a mascot/mascot handler is preferred. * Prior experience working in an office or community building environment is preferred.
