Nursery Worker Holden Arboretum Opportunity: The Horticulture & Collections department seeks a seasonal nursery worker to work with nursery technicians, horticulturists and other team members to support nursery operations during the growing season. Assist nursery staff in the activities of propagation, plant care, and other seasonal nursery activities in support of mission of HF&G. This position supports nursery operations during the growing season when plants are actively growing. Position Details: * A great position for anyone looking for summer work to gain experience in nursery management, natural sciences, or horticulture * Position runs approximately from May - August, flexibility in start date, but 12-week availability required * Seasonal role * Approximately 40 hours per week * Monday - Friday 7am - 3:30 pm * Rotational scheduled weekends Key Responsibilities: * Support Holden Forests & Gardens' mission, vision, and values * Watering * Pruning * Weeding * Propagation by seed and cuttings * Soil mixing * Transplanting * Irrigation system maintenance * Rotational scheduled weekend coverage * Ability to drive utility vehicles * Other duties as assigned Qualifications and Skills: * Demonstrate a passion for people and nature * High school diploma, or equivalent, preferred * Experience working with plants, in the natural sciences, horticulture or arboriculture, preferred * Willing and able to operate small power equipment * A desire to work indoors and outdoors performing manual labor in all weather conditions * Preform strenuous, hands-on work in all types of weather conditions * Effectively work and communicate within a team * A positive attitude, willingness to learn * Valid driver's license and an acceptable vehicle record Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation: * Assist Sitting, standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, grabbing and reaching on uneven work surfaces for extended periods of time. * Transport oneself by foot over a variety of terrain that may be wet, slippery, uneven or rocky * Willingness to work in and around poison ivy, poison sumac, stinging insects, ticks and in the sun * Effective vision and hearing * Hand and arm dexterity * Ability to climb ladders to accomplish tasks Some of the reasons Holden Forests & Gardens (HF&G) is a great place to work!
