The NC Career Coach is a Forsyth Tech employee that cultivates programs and services for the high school learner so that the individual can successfully enter and advance in a career path. The NC Career Coach is a strong Forsyth Tech and student advocate-in-person, on the phone, and online. The NC Career Coach works diligently in a team-oriented, student-centric environment to provide exceptional student services while embracing the mission and values of Forsyth Tech. The NC Career Coach is responsible for supporting career exploration and strengthening post-secondary pathways for all students, 9th through 12th grade, at Carver High School and Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy. Both high schools have college programming to support student success, including Career and College Promise pathways. The ideal candidate is a creative individual who is student focused and has the skill set and passion to serve a diverse student population. This diverse role requires a high energy individual who can work a flexible schedule, participate in college committees, professional development, and other activities as assigned. The NC Career Coach has a commitment to historically underserved students, Forsyth County, and Forsyth Tech as a whole. The NC Career Coach reports to the Director of Recruitment and Dual Enrollment. The position is funded by the State General Fund Appropriations and Forsyth Tech. The project period is based on the five-year grant cycle. 2024-2025 is year one of the current funding cycle. Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's degree. * At least one year of directly related experience with high school learners and at least one year of experience with a North Carolina Community College or higher institution of higher education. * Demonstrated ability to build relationships within an education setting, plan, organize, and implement programs and services. * Commitment to the learning/student-centered environments. * Experience with or demonstrated knowledge of career advising and local industry/businesses. Preferred Qualifications * Master's degree. * At least 2 years of directly related experience with high school learners. * Working knowledge of Datatel/Colleague. * High school counseling background and experience at the college level with career counseling. * Knowledge of Career and College Promise Program. * Excellent bilingual verbal and written communications skills in English and Spanish Essential Duties Career Exploration: * Support outreach efforts involving high school learners to raise awareness of opportunities and assist in their enrollment on the college level. * Collaborate with high school and middle school counselors, career development coordinators, principals, Forsyth Tech staff, and other stakeholders to assist students to determine career and educational goals. * Coordinate events designed to promote awareness of career pathways. * Participate during school and after-school events to provide college and career information to students and parents: including PTSA meetings, curriculum fairs, club events, classroom information sessions, pep rallies, awards ceremonies, graduation, etc. This may also include attending sporting events or other extra-curricular activities. * Work with high school/college staff to prepare information related to career pathways for distribution to students and parents. * Create and implement a communication plan to ensure consistent communication with students, faculty, staff, parents, etc. * Organize college campus/industry tours. * Attend meetings, conferences, and seminars regarding career trends (i.e., local Chamber of Commerce meetings). Advising: * Maintain contact with Career and College Promise dual enrolled high school learners and graduating seniors using a proactive advising model. * Maintain accurate and adequate student records to assist in academic/career advising and college course registration for high school learners and for state reports. * Provide information to college staff regarding course needs for high school students.. * Focus on increasing under-represented students' enrollment and enhancing the success of high school students taking courses with Forsyth Tech. * Provide information to high school leaners on college, universities, military, workforce development resources to assist them in making informed decisions. * Support college-wide advising and registration events i.e. Rock Enroll, winter coverage, etc.) * Maintain compliance with NACADA core values and competencies for academic advising. Support Services: * Excellent skills for planning, organizing, implementing new initiatives. * Ability to establish, cultivate, and maintain positive/collaborative relationships with colleagues, students, peers, etc. * Effective communication skills (written and oral) in a variety of settings with people from diverse backgrounds, educational levels, and age groups. * Ability to foster a collaborative team-based work environment with a willingness to see tasks through to completion. * Working knowledge of secondary and postsecondary education. * Ability to independently perform complex tasks and prioritize multiple projects * Working knowledge of MS Office and relevant applications and internet platforms Skills and Abilities: * Excellent skills for planning, organizing, implementing new initiatives. * Ability to establish, cultivate, and maintain positive/collaborative relationships with colleagues, students, peers, etc. * Effective communication skills (written and oral) in a variety of settings with people from diverse backgrounds, educational levels, and age groups. * Ability to foster a collaborative team-based work environment with a willingness to see tasks through to completion. * Working knowledge of secondary and postsecondary education. * Ability to independently perform complex tasks and prioritize multiple projects * Working knowledge of MS Office and relevant applications and internet platforms Language Skills: * Ability to read and analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals , financial reports and legal documents. * Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community * Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to the prescribed style and format. * Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/ or boards of directors. Mathematical Skills: * Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, omissions, proportions percentages , area, circumference, and volume. * Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability: * Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. * Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
