Requisition No: 839822 Agency: Department of Health Working Title: SENIOR PUBLIC HEALTH NUTRITIONIST SUPV - 64006282 Pay Plan: Career Service Position Number: 64006282 Salary: $51,000 - $58,487.52 Posting Closing Date: 11/12/2024 Total Compensation Estimator Tool FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH - OPEN COMPETITIVE OPPORTUNITY Your Specific Responsibilities: This position spends more than 50% of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees' work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets. Responsible for all aspects of operation for the WIC clinics at assigned clinic locations. Actively supports the clinics in achieving a monthly WIC participation rate of at least 2800 participants through exceptional customer service, leading, mentoring and motivating assigned staff, implementing strategies to increase service delivery, implementing and supporting WIC and DOH policies and procedures, assisting Division's vendor manager with related vendor management activities. Supervision: * Oversees the activities of up to nine employees. * Directly supervises a staff of 3 nutrition staff members and a Senior Clerical Supervisor. * Completes Performance Appraisals on all permanent staff during the month of March and at other times as required. * Ensures training and CEUs are current for all nutritional education subordinates. * Certifies and approves EARs and timesheets per DOH policy. * Participates in the recruiting and hiring process for staff and ensures new hires receive appropriate and required training. Prepares the monthly clinic schedule for staff for assigned location and collaborates clinic coverage issues with other regional directors when there are staffing issues to ensure continuity of operations. * Prepares and maintains a master schedule of clinics. * Responsible for entering the clinics day to day schedules in the WIC data system. In months containing a holiday, consults with the County Health departments at least 3 months in advance to rearrange the clinic schedule to assure that WIC services are delivered in a timely manner and meet Federal processing guidelines. * Consults with the Division Director to determine whether changes to the master schedule are needed. * At least biannually reviews the staffing at each clinic to assure that the client: staff ratio is appropriate. * On a monthly basis, reviews the next available appointment list to determine the need for makeup days. * Modifies the monthly schedule as needed based on illnesses, scheduled leave, etc. Is available each morning or evening by telephone to receive staff calls about potential scheduling alterations that may require changes in the day's schedule. Serves as point of contact for issues involving assigned clinics and is available to receive phone calls from WIC staff or other health care providers. Functions as a Certified Professional Authority (CPA) in WIC clinics to counsel WIC clients, determine eligibility by assessing nutrition status and provides appropriate nutrition education. Biannually prepares the nutrition education plan including goals and objectives, community assessment, staff assessment, and clinic assessment for assigned clinics: * Prepares regular progress reports and updates Division Director concerning staffing, personnel, budgetary, and all aspects related to clinical operations. * In alternate years, updates report and provides an assessment of the goals and objectives and develops new goals and objectives if necessary. * Provides clinical experience to UF Master's dietetic students and pediatric interns when assigned. Biannually prepares staff for monitoring visit by state WIC office. On alternate years prepares a self-assessment monitoring: * Prepares a corrective action response and organizes post-audit activities needed for monitoring reply. * Assures that self-monitoring of WIC records and established quality assurance initiatives are being done at least monthly. * Responsible for following established policies and procedures regarding the disposition of records. Annually prepares a disaster plan for assigned location: * Assures that needed supplies and materials available. * Trains staff in preparation for natural or other disaster. * Maintains and updates staff emergency contact list. * Collaborates with local community partners to ensure WIC is involved in emergency response affecting designated clinics. Acts as property administrator for assigned location and assures that the annual property inventory is completed, and all items are accounted for a verified on the division's master inventory list. Travel to other clinics as necessary, sponsors and facilitates one outreach venue each year and participates in other outreach opportunities. Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service training and other professional and staff development activities. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
