Salary Range: Up to $89,000/Annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications. Hours: 40 hours per week, exempt. Essential Functions Job Summary Function: To provide oversight, direction, and development for the communications and marketing functions of a large organization or VP unit. Scope: Responsible for leading, managing, and executing internal and external communications and marketing strategies to advance the research and economic development enterprise at UTSA. Core Responsibilities * Oversees all communication materials, ensuring alignment with university standards; contributes content as needed. Always advocates for the office of research content. * Sets strategy and KPIs for the Research Marketing and Communications team, providing direction and mentorship to align with UTSA's strategic goals. * Acts as the line manager for the department, overseeing personnel and operations. * Manages department announcements, social media, electronic newsletters, and publications. * Works with University Communications to ensure consistent branding and messaging. * Develops and implements strategies to communicate departmental activities and initiatives. * Coordinates website content updates, ensuring compliance with University standards. * Manages programs related to securing funds and prepares materials to support fundraising efforts. * Represents the research marketing and communications group at university communications meetings, fostering interdepartmental collaboration. * Maintains comprehensive records of departmental activities, events, and branded materials. * Handles other tasks as needed. Periodic: * Coordinates with Directors at the beginning of each new academic year to determine needs. * Drafts remarks, speeches, letters, and acknowledgments for the Vice President and their direct reports. * Prepares comprehensive reports and proposals regarding programs and services. Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field from an accredited institution. * Eight (8) years of progressively responsible communications and public relations experience including at least three (3) years in a leadership capacity. * Demonstrated experience with web content design and management, including SEO and web accessibility. * Experience managing social media channels for a university or other organization. * Experience managing complex projects with a range of stakeholders in web, marketing, communications, or a related field. * Demonstrated experience with word processing, desktop publishing, presentation, and web design software. * Basic understanding of clerical procedures and systems such as recordkeeping and filing. * Demonstrated independent decision-making and problem-solving ability. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred Qualifications * Master's degree from an accredited institution in a related field. * Similar experience at an institution of higher education or a non-profit organization. Additional Information * UTSA is a tobacco free campus. * This is a security sensitive position. Working Conditions Working Environment: * Office environment and home office * Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events. * Occasional after-hours and weekend work may be required. Physical Demands: * Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required, only occasionally. * Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally. This position will require working both remotely in Texas and on campus (approximately five or more days on campus per month). Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
