Job Summary and Qualifications Position Summary: Responsible for taking a lead role among the financial coordinators, ensuring coordination of daily tasks, staff training, and in-services. Responsible for maintaining demographic and insurance information on all patients referred to Transplant Services as well as verifying insurance benefits and obtaining authorization for all outpatient and inpatient transplant services. Is the financial liaison between the transplant clinic and the patient/family, ensuring that prospective candidates for transplant are fully aware of their transplant insurance benefits. 1. Completely and accurately obtains/maintains transplant benefits and insurance verification on patients presenting for transplant services and/or organ failure services during all phases of transplant care and maintains information in transplant database, including accurate identification of guarantor for transplant and organ failure services. Consistently meets deadlines and turn around times to ensure that referrals are managed correctly and sent to clinic for scheduling in a timely manner. 2. Develops/maintains processes and procedures related to the financial coordinator role as it relates to the entire transplant experience in collaboration with the Administrative Director. 3. Is a resource and subject matter expert for the department regarding insurance verification for all types of organ transplants performed including any changes or updates with insurance plan/policies. Handles escalated insurance verifications for the department. 4. Coordinates the education/training of existing staff or new staff on financial verification and advisement. 5. Participates in the patient care conferences and patient tracking meetings and is prepared to discuss financial issues regarding transplant benefits or authorization on presented patients. 6. Accurately tracks incoming transplant and/or organ failure referrals on-line in database and is competent in running referral reports by referral source. Maintains information within the transplant database, including accurate identification of guarantor and contract information for transplant and organ failure services. 7. In collaboration with the social worker and/or case manager, serves as financial counselor ensuring that patients and/or their families fully understand their transplant benefits. 8. Audits daily tasks to ensure all patients are verified in a timely manner and all tasks are complete. 9. Able to cross-train others or be cross-trained in other functions to ensure satisfactory function of the Program. 10. Supports the mission and vision of the facility and demonstrates excellent customer service at all times. 11. Understands and is committed to helping the facility and its associated facilities achieve its goals. 12. Must learn and comply with System and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function. 13. Adheres to the HCA Code of Conduct and demonstrates ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues and the community. Understands the personal obligation to report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules regulations or the Code of Conduct itself.. 14. Maintains confidentiality and HIPPA privacy laws during interactions with provider practices, patients, and caregivers. 15. Performs other related functions as assigned. EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED: * High school graduate or GED required. Associates preferred. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED: * 2 years experience in insurance verification/authorization or related field required. * Prior experience working within a "Transplant & Cellular Therapy (TCT) / Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) / Blood and Marrow transplant program is highly SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: * Demonstrated skills in organization, verbal and written communications, customer service, math, analysis, reading, following instruction, basic computer usage. * Ability to multitask. * Works effectively with the care team and is promotes teamwork.
