GeoSpatial Data Curator Posting Number req20870 Department Campus IT Services Department Website Link https://it.arizona.edu/ Location Main Campus Address Tucson, AZ USA Position Highlights The GeoSpatial Data Curator manages the campus geospatial data content, including data maintenance and documentation, collaborator support and training, and manages the related workflows for Enterprise GIS functions throughout the university. Manages data for web map and cartographic projects and supports creation of these products and workflows. Duties & Responsibilities Data Curation and Management * Curates and manages campus GeoSpatial data content including oversight and implementation of existing data maintenance and new data collection, entry, conversion, quality control, workflow procedures, and organizing data technician work. * Updates GeoSpatial data for PDC's design and construction projects, including establishing data deliverable standards, ensuring required deliverables (such as project record drawings) are provided at appropriate stages by project teams and others, implements related geospatial data edits, and monitors the status of the entire update process. * Edits and updates the full range of campus geospatial data content including base map layers and other physical facilities and assets, using the Esri ArcGIS platform and other applicable software tools. Provides GIS technical support and training for unit and campus users, collaborators, and clients. Data Workflows and Procedures * Organizes, manages, and implements procedures for field data collection and entry, including design and creation of ArcGIS Online maps/apps for field data collection used by EGIS and other University of Arizona partners. * Designs and implements data development workflows, including implementation of data designs for new GIS projects as well as data acquisition and quality control techniques based on existing and emerging technologies (remote sensing, aerial imagery, drones, GPS/survey tools, BIM, ETL procedures). EGIS Team Support * Assists the EGIS team with GIS database and application design, including AGOL resources where needed. * Assists the EGIS Team with administering Enterprise Geodatabases using ArcSDE/SQL Server. * Proposes and recommends enhancements to existing and future geospatial data as well as EGIS policies and procedures, consistent with and building on existing organizational systems, data, goals, and plans. * Learns about the University campus context and GIS methods and technologies applicable to it, contributes to creative ideas in team discussions, provides encouragement and support to others, embraces decisions, flexibility, and participates in professional development. Special Assignments and Committees * Provides support to the Director for EGIS and attends meeting on behalf of Director and other team members as needed. * Supports the implementation of the EGIS Director's strategies in conjunction with the EGIS team. * Contributes positive input to efforts such as Search Committees and Process Improvement Teams. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities * Demonstrated ability to perform basic as well as advanced editing tasks using the ArcGIS platform. * Demonstrated ability to create and implement data maintenance workflows, including field data collection using traditional and new technologies. * Thorough understanding of the ArcGIS platform and related data formats, including skill using ArcGIS Pro. * Knowledge of GIS standards (spatial accuracy, metadata , etc.) * Knowledge of emerging related GIS technologies and platforms. * Skill in customizing technical communication to diverse technical and non-technical users and groups. * Desire and ability to serve as an enthusiastic team player and carry out decisions of team leadership. Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required in GIS, Computer Science, MIS, Geography, AM/FM/CAD, Remote Sensing, Planning, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or related field; AND, * Minimum of 3 years of technical experience developing and maintaining GIS data and related workflows using the ArcGIS platform; OR, * Equivalent combination of education and work experience. Preferred Qualifications * Experience supporting ArcGIS end-users and managing GIS Data Technicians. * Experience with GIS data and applications in any combination of the following settings: urban, university campus, or facility automation. * Experience and enthusiasm for managing highly accurate and detailed GIS data. Experience with complex GIS data management projects. * Experience using remote sensing data (e.g. LiDAR, digital orthophotos) and GPS tools for surveying. * Experience integrating facility-related spatial data (e.g., CAD/BIM with GIS).
