Videos Help Duties As a Technical Information Specialist within the Office of Communication and Specialist, some of your specific duties will include: * Captures, catalogs and organizes information from leadership to form agendas and other items to be used by a Community of Practice and Social Media team, providing communication opportunities and enhance coordination with communicators across USGS. * Uses project management techniques, spreadsheets, and other tools to catalog and track tasks, formulate reports, implement principles, themes, and goals across a multitude of groups and products. * Captures and analyze data to measure communication efforts and develop reports and materials for trainings and in support of communicators across the agency. * Assist in technical aspects of social media including video editing and other production tasks to support social media strategies and goals Help Requirements Conditions of Employment Key Requirements: * Applicants must be U.S. Citizens. * Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation. * The duration of the Recent Graduates appointment is a trial period. * More requirements are listed under Qualifications and Other Information. Qualifications Eligibility Requirements In order to be eligible for an appointment under the Pathways Recent Graduate Program you must meet the following requirements: * You must be a recent graduate who has completed, within the previous two years, an associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution such as an accredited technical or vocational school; a 2- or 4-year college or university; a graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or a post-secondary home school curriculum. Note: Certificate program is defined as post-secondary education in a qualifying educational institution equal to at least one academic year of full-time study that's part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum. * Veterans who were precluded from applying due to their military service obligation begin their 2-year eligibility period upon release or discharge from active duty; however, eligibility for these veterans cannot exceed 6 years from the date on which the degree or certificate was obtained. The date of release or discharge from active duty should be later than the date the degree or certificate was obtained. Qualification Requirements Definitions: EXPERIENCE: One year of work experience is twelve months working full-time (at least 35-40 hours per week). Part-time experience can be pro-rated (i.e., a year at 20 hours per week is credited as 6 months of experience). If your position consisted of mixed duties, experience credit is given for the percentage of time that you spent on qualifying duties (i.e., if you held a position for 2 years, full-time, consisting of 25% personnel work and 75% budget work, and then applied for a budget position you could calculate your experience as follows: 2 yrs = 24 months. 24 months x 75% [percentage of time spent on budget duties] = 18 months of qualifying experience.) UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION: A year of undergraduate education is 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours or the equivalent of college study. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent was a prerequisite. GRADUATE EDUCATION: In the absence of specific graduate program information, a year of graduate education is 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours of graduate level college course work, or the number of credit hours the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full time study. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet A, B or C below to satisfy the basic requirement for Technical Information Specialist, all grade levels. A. A full 4-year course of study that meets all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with major study in the subject matter field of the position to be filled. OR B. Four years of experience that provided a knowledge of the basic principles, theories, practices, techniques, and terminology of a discipline or subject matter field of the position to be filled; an understanding of the standard methods, procedures, and techniques of research and analysis in the subject-matter field of the position to be filled; and where appropriate, ability to read and comprehend nontechnical material in one or more foreign languages. Such experience must have been equivalent to that which would have been gained through a 4-year college curriculum. OR C. A combination of education and experience as described above. The combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in "A" above For GS-07: In addition to the Basic Education Requirement as described above, applicants must meet the following to qualify for the GS-07 level: One full year of graduate-level education related to the position. OR: one year of appropriate professional experience that is in or related to the duties of this position is qualifying if it is equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal service, and if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Examples of GS-5 level experience could include (1) understanding of science programs, products, and publications; (2) understanding of government or private sector communications methods, processes, and policy; (3) use of various methods and approaches in project planning, integration, and data analysis that results in effective deliverables; (4) use various technical information systems to track and analyze data; (5) establishes effective working relationships using proficient written and oral communications skills in order to provide guidance on electronic communications issues and concerns. OR: a combination of successfully completed graduate level education, as described above, and professional experience, as described above.
