General Summary: The Senior Event Manager(s) is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing events within the Colorado Convention Center (CCC) as assigned and monitoring the logistical interfacing of these events with the CCC's Operations' Departments. In planning an event, the Senior Event Manager(s) must seek out the client's requirements, their expectations as to CCC's performance, disseminate event requirements to internal departments, oversee the implementation of the event, and interface with the coordination of all subcontractors pertinent to the event. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Key Responsibilities: * Manage high profile events, includes but is not limited to, community galas, special events/governmental events, and conventions as assigned. * Assist the Director of Sales and Services and/or the Assistant Director of Event Management on special projects, written reports, industry research, etc. * Attend local industry committee meetings as needed, in the absence of the Assistant Director of Event Management. * Conduct weekly Events Meetings in the absence of the Assistant Director of Event Management. * Assign new events to an Event Manager, in the absence of the Assistant Director of Event Management. * Trouble-shooting any event concerns on behalf of Event Managers and Operations, in the absence of the Assistant Director of Event Management. * Assist in a comprehensive training program, upon joining the department. * Lead Event Managers in the absence of the Assistant Director of Event Management. Typical work routine: * Act as the key liaison between the client with its event organization and Sales and Operations Departments. * Serving as the lead Event Manager for clients in handling any unexpected changes, requests, and unusual circumstances as they arise. * Determining the event criteria from the client and composing a detailed event document with individual instructions to all Operations' departments and CCC's food and beverage exclusive contractor. * Coordinating with operations: equipment distribution/inventory, room set requirements, and special staffing requirements. * Planning and coordinating within CCC rules and regulations, the physical arrangement of sub-contractors requirements such as: general contractor/decorator, audio/visual and/or production, food/beverage, etc. * Inspecting leased event space during move-in, move-out, and show hours to oversee enforcement of Fire Safety Regulations. * Conducting prospective client tours and helping the client visualize the variety of uses on how their event can effectively take place at CCC. * Maintaining an overall philosophy of providing the highest level of customer service possible. * Communicating in a courteous, cooperative, and professional manner with CCC staff, clients, and sub-contractors. * Working irregular hours, evening, holidays, and weekends as required to, insure proper supervision of assigned events and activities scheduled at CCC. Available 24-hours as follows: * One day prior to an event's first move in day * Throughout the event * One day after an event's last move out * Other duties as assigned Qualifications: To excel in this role, candidates must possess the capability to handle high-stress situations effectively in addition to satisfactorily performing each essential duty. Education and Experience: * BA in Business Management, Communications, or Hospitality Management preferred, or a minimum of five (5) years' experience in event planning or related field * Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) designation or commitment to achieve certification within the first year of hire. Skills and Abilities: * Firm expectation to work nights, weekends, and holidays required * Excellent communication (verbal and written) and inter-personal skills among all levels of staff and clientele required * Aptitude for resourcefulness required * Ability to speak, understand and read English required * Ability to operate a two-way handheld radio required * Ability to successfully manage a diversified portfolio of events. * Work effectively with diverse groups of people among all levels within an organization * Work effectively as part of a team and independently with limited supervision * Assists in enforcing facility's exclusive services * Perform leadership role and job tasks effectively despite sudden deadlines and changing priorities * Work effectively with complex flows of information * Detail-oriented * Excellent problem solving and organizational skills * Provide customer service in a professional and considerate manner * Excellent record of dependability and reliability * Professional presentation, appearance, and work standards Computer Skills: * Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required Working Conditions: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
