What We Want The Library Specialist III will be responsible for shelving, straightening, shifting, and shelf-reading the special collection groups (Bestsellers, New Books, Weinbaum, Current Periodicals (newspapers and magazines), Curriculum, Reference, Microforms, and Government Documents) that are located in both the Evans and Annex Libraries. In addition, this position will coordinate stack shifting, special projects, and participate where needed. They will shelve materials in the main Library's collection which is anything not in the Special Collections. What You Need to Know Starting Salary: $19.84 per hour Work Schedule: Ability to work Monday - Friday from 8 am - 5 pm with one hour lunch break. In addition, have the ability to adjust the schedule on an occasional basis to help cover during extended hours or in the event of an emergency. Required Education and Experience: * High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience * Five years' experience in a public, academic or specialized library or archive Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others * Thorough knowledge of library services and functions * Knowledge of email, spreadsheets, and difficult and varied library online research database searches and/or processing * Great interpersonal skills * Excellent conflict resolution skills * Reliable attendance * Excellent communication and customer service skills. Physical Requirements: * Ability to lift and/or move moderate boxes, books, heavy book trucks, or similar items * Ability to handle material that can contain dust or microscopic mold spores * Ability to work in narrow aisles that may involve bending, reaching, stretching, and/or stooping * Ability to stand for extended periods of time Preferred Education and Experience: * Previous shelving or stacking experience * Two years of TAMU experience as a Library Specialist II * Knowledge of Library of Congress and SuDocs Call numbers * Ability to work effectively with minimal guidance and occasional review from supervisor. Responsibilities: * Special Collection Maintenance: Shelves, straightens, shifts, and shelf-reads the special collection groups (Bestsellers, New Books, Weinbaum, Current Periodicals (newspapers and magazines), Curriculum, Reference, Microforms, and Government Documents) in the Evans and Annex Libraries in a variety of formats. Ensures that all materials are available in a timely manner. Monitors both the sorting of library materials in sorting areas and the distribution of materials to the appropriate locations. Uses the library computer system to discharge materials after they have been used and returns them to designated areas/units. Leads special projects in the library. * Shelving Unit Support: Coordinates stack shifting and special projects and participates as needed. Researches and gathers information for shifting and special projects. Shelves materials in the main Library's collection (anything not in the Special Collections). Monitors the shelf-reading activities and cleans up targeted areas needing attention. Provides excellent customer service in person, by phone, and via e-mail. Provides instruction to and assists users in the proper use of library equipment and materials. Responds to intermediate and difficult resource questions. Monitors the library pickup activities from the public areas and general collection shifting to ensure that items are available in a timely manner for library users. * Administrative Support: Creates, maintains, updates, and processes reports with unit-specific databases and spreadsheets that contain complex elements. Assists the Library Manager in hiring, scheduling, and day-to-day supervision of student employees (a group of individuals of varied backgrounds and abilities). Assists in evaluating student employee's performance. Assists with creating training materials for student employees. Participates in and hosts training sessions. Monitors and directs workflow in assigned areas. Identifies operational problems and contributes to resolution. May guide subordinate staff. May perform LSI, LSII, and other duties as assigned.
