Job Description Description Description - External SAIC supports the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) on Princeton University's Forrestal Campus under the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for the United States Department of Commerce (DOC). NOAA/GFDL is a large national laboratory with the mission of understanding and predicting changes in the global climate, which it fulfills by building and running comprehensive computer models of the Earth system on the largest computers available (the computational scale is measured in petaflops and petabytes). These models are built by large teams, consisting of process scientists specialized in various subcomponents of the climate system; algorithm developers building representations of these processes using numerical methods such as finite-volume; and computational experts working toward efficient execution of these codes on massively parallel high-performance computing (HPC) architectures. We are seeking dynamic, bright young students to join this team, using cutting-edge information technology in service of the most important problems facing humankind! Ideal candidates will have a keen interest in science and computers, get a kick from solving problems and puzzles, and enjoy working in teams filled with diverse talents. Responsibilities will include: * Troubleshooting * quality assurance and testing * writing documentation * collaborating to on-going programming projects Qualifications Qualifications: * High School and two years of related experience * Matriculated in an accredited B.S. in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM)‐related program * Must be a US citizen * An understanding of databases and SQL * Working knowledge of one or more programming and/or scripting languages * Ability for the candidate to understanding advanced programming concepts * Must be willing to commit to a 6 month Co-Op where the Co-Op will be working 40 hours/ week Preferred Majors: Comp. - Computer Science, Comp. - Computing & Security Technology, Comp. - Data Science, Comp. - Software Engineering, Comp. - Informatics, Comp. - Information Technology, Comp. - Information Systems Level(s) of Experience Sought: Intermediate - Some related work or volunteer experience/second Co-op Advanced - Previous related work experience/final Co-op SAIC accepts applications on an ongoing basis and there is no deadline.
