. The general salary range for this position is $23 - 27 hourly. Salary offers will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, training and education. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation's most effective animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Federal Policy Fellow, Federal Affairs for its affiliate Humane Society Legislative Fund (HSLF). In this position you will provide support to the President of HSLF and the Federal Affairs team on federal legislative and regulatory efforts and administrative tasks. You will research and draft factsheets and briefing documents, comply with scheduling and accounting requests, help with grassroots efforts, and support the overall management of the department. You will be responsible for: * Assisting with lobby day events, such as the Taking Action for Animals (TAFA)/Lobby Day; this includes but is not limited to providing materials to volunteers, answering questions, and scheduling and coordinating meetings for as many as 250 participants. Helping coordinate other events including the annual Congressional Humane Awards reception by monitoring RSVPs and ensuring that everything runs smoothly during the actual event; * Helping prepare and maintain legislative and regulatory documents including priority factsheets, cosponsor lists, endorsement lists, agency briefing documents, and grassroots alerts. Drafting LTEs; * Helping provide research needed to support legislative, regulatory, and grassroots actions; * Assisting with all accounting requests and general administrative tasks including scheduling; * Helping monitor the introduction of bills, notice of hearings and votes, notices for agency rules, and policies and provide the information to the appropriate staff in HSLF, APL, and programs/campaigns; * Helping with all aspects of the annual Humane Scorecard including regularly maintaining cosponsor and leadership information; * Performing other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience required; JD preferred; * Research and writing experience required; * General understanding of regulatory and legislative process; * Proficiency of Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook); * Strong written and verbal communication skills; * Attention to detail and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes; * Strong interpersonal skills are necessary; * Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred. This position is located in Washington, DC preferred, remote eligible. This is a year-long, interim position working 40 hours per week. Please upload your resume and cover letter as one document.
